| I can totally relate to your situation. My Barney is 11.5 inches tall and barely weighs 5 pounds. He looks malnourished, but the vet assures me he is not. I cut his puppy coat away and he looked terrible. His legs looked like little toothpicks. It is now growing out and I do not plan to have it cut short again. Fortunately, his hair is very silky and rarely tangles. I only give him a good brushing once a week on bath day and that does the trick. He gets a light going over a few times a week. We've only had to remove a few mats. In this photo, he's in the growing out phase.

| I know how you feel! My little guy has the fine silky Yorkie "show hair" coat, but if it is cut short, he looks thin and his legs look skinny. He's only 5 1/4 pounds, and vet says he's very healthy. I just comb it out his hair and trim it myself. He has learned scissoms are nothing to be afraid of by now. I keep his hair 3" below his body and just even-up stray hair on his legs and short under his tail. His eyebross are trimmed into a neat rounded shingle over his eyes. I like his beard about 5-6 inches. After he has played, is when I will get him to lay on my lap, and I slide the round-tipped dog scissors (pet stores should have these) through his hair and just cut right through the snarls, pull loose hair gently away w/ fingers. Finish with a brush. Happy doggie! Did find a Palm-sized dog razor (made by Yellow Dog Co) at TJMaxx for $9.00 instead of $19, and I now trim his under paws and down away from his eyes with it. Can also trim the top 1/3 of his ears, but Don't put any razor going up the edges of doggie ears! Just keep razor flat on the flat flaps of ears, easy to do. Can trim little stray hair off edges w/ rounded scissors after if you want. The little razor makes a soft buzz, and now Taffy knows the razor doesn't hurt either, just tickles perhaps. It is not hard if you do different areas over a day or two! Don't make your pup sit or stand too long, give treats! |

| I think your pups are adorable. She would look cute cut like the one in the second picture but it really depends on if you want her in full coat or not.

| Marilyn's after-bath-shot of Huey is so relaxed-looking. He must be waiting for his dryer to start-up, I bet! My hubby's first reaction to seeing Taffy after a bath was, "What happened? Half of the dog is gone!" Taffy was stretched out on his tummy on bath towels in the bathroom sink, happily waiting for the hair dryer to start when hubby saw him. (There are 'small dogs' under that hair I told my husband) Taffy loves to be dried...I keep running fingers of one hand through his hair, and he begins to doze. He even hates to stand up so I can finish his tummy...loves the towels & the finger combing! Happy baths, Huey! |

| Just here to say Huey is a doll! What a cute face! I like his length, but if OP wants to try something shorter, I like the look of a shorter body cut, with long legs and face hair. It looks easier to maintain, especially if you dress your kids & they still have that "fancy yorkie look" to them. I might try that on Billi next spring, we'll see.

| I love to see a bit of a beard. Last time, I trimmed off too much in August, sigh! Taffy lost his nice little 'Yorkie beard' that I had gotten so used to seeing. People would see him with his beard and say, "Oh, what a pretty Yorkie." After I cut it back, the people at my local pet store said, "What happened to his cute little beard?" Well, it's finally is growing back. This little guy hates bows and pulls them off + some hair. So he now has short, rounded bangs with longer hair on back of his head & on sides of his face. Looks good on him + he can see well. Have fun all you guys who cut your own pup's hair. It does grow back! |
