I can totally relate to your situation. My Barney is 11.5 inches tall and barely weighs 5 pounds. He looks malnourished, but the vet assures me he is not. I cut his puppy coat away and he looked terrible. His legs looked like little toothpicks. It is now growing out and I do not plan to have it cut short again. Fortunately, his hair is very silky and rarely tangles. I only give him a good brushing once a week on bath day and that does the trick. He gets a light going over a few times a week. We've only had to remove a few mats. In this photo, he's in the growing out phase.
