Yes, mine are......I had it done when I had them spayed, so they didn't feel any pain.

Well, even if it did hurt, I'm sure it's not agonal pain and I gave Tibbe a bit of pain medicine for the rest of the day but sometimes some pain is necessary to help ensure safety and well-being. As I said, I'd get one just as he did using that "gun" or whatever if it would help and I know if I could talk to him and make him understand, he'd go along whether he liked it or not just like my son did when I told him when he was old enough he had to go get shots for school. He had to wear a brace that hurt on his feet for varus formation when he was a baby, too, but we had to do it. Sometimes things about life hurt a while but they give longterm benefits. I'm so glad Tibbe is chipped.

Plus I don't think it hurts them at all. Maybe it does, but I don't think it hurts more than a vaccine.
Nena is a yelper. If you touch her wrong she'll cry as if she's dying. But she never made a sound when she got her microchip. And when it was Rufus's turn, he was to busy eating his treats..he didn't even move..
On Bonaire (where my parents live) they started a campaign about microchipping. I encouraged my parents to chip the dogs and they did
All 3 dogs are chipped there.

Microchip is a must, in my opinion. Best way is to do it while they are under anesthesia for spay/neuter or dental. No pain.

I got Huey chipped at his routine annual visit this year. I don't know why I waited so long, either.( He is 4 1/2) He was awake and didn't flinch. He had a small amount of bleeding from the injection site and I made sure to treat that area gently for a few days, but I think it hurt me worse than him. When I got home, I went to the Home Again website and completed his profile, added a photo and ordered his ID cards. I had to correct the name of the vet office-it had the emergency vet, not the main one. I now have a photo ID card and keychain tags with his chip info, too, and Home Again has contact into for me as well as for the vet.

We got Yogi chipped last week when he was neutered. It provides some peace of mind but we hope we never need it!

mine are all chipped but it doesn't always help. My first yorkie escaped from the fenced yard, a hard lesson about leaving the dogs alone outside. She had on tags and was chipped. She was never found and never returned. An aquaintance of mine found a small yorkie. I asked if the had her checked for a chip. Their reply was "Oh no, we want to keep her.". Microchipping is only good if the people who find them are honest.

OMG, I'm SO sorry to hear this. You must have been devastated!!!!!

I can't even imagine keeping someone else's pet!!!! VERY sad that someone would do that!!!!

True. It is worth a shot. I understand how you feel. I had a yorkie when I was around 8yrs old and someone went into my backyard and took my dog. Sad how selfish people are.

It's true that microchips only work if the people who find the dog are honest but there are still a lot of honest people out there, thankfully. Chipping is just another tool for pet owners who know that the unexpected can happen at any time.

My girl was an escape artiest when she was a puppy, a fast one at that. She is chipped and also wears a cat collar with an ID tag on it at all times. I realized one of the times she got out the door that if someone found her and wanted to return her they would have to go to the shelter in order to have her scanned for a chip. Many lost dogs do end up at the shelter but if they have a tag on they can get home much faster. Using every method possible to help your dog get home safely will give you some peace of mind.

Gracie is now trained to sit back away from the door when it is opened but we always make sure we stand in a way that blocks her from trying to sneak out if she were to see something to chase and decide to go for it.

All four of mine were chipped at the time they got their last puppy shots. I didn't want to wait for their spay date, which was at 1 year. I don't think it hurt much, and was worth the peace of mind.

I didn't realize the percentage of return was so low. 1%.... is that for real? Part of the problem is that our pups are all so darn cute, people want to keep them.
