Microchipping Hi, last Sunday I got my Yorkie microchipped, and now I feel happy about this, although I did not want to cause her pain, I mean, it hurts a bit this "injection" with a chip. Are your Yorkies microchipped? I know that in some countries it is obligatory, in my country it is just optional to choose for the owner. My older boy and my cat are both chipped. I haven't done it to my 2 year old. When I adopted him, he was severely underweight and he is a little guy anyways...so something the size of a piece of rice seemed like it would hurt him a lot...so I opted to wait. Now that he's got a little more meat on his bones, I am going to be chipping him soon. Out of all of my animals, he probably needs it the most. He's the only one who's ran away...not from us, but from his former owners. I am definitely all for microchipping pets. An animal can loose a collar with their id tags on it, but they can't loose their chip. Nowadays, if an animal is found without id's, the first thing a vet or shelter will do in an attempt to locate the owners is scan the dog for a microchip. Just think of how it would be if every owner chipped their pets~there would be way less lost dogs...and just think of how it would be if they integrated chipping into the law. It could cut down on the amount of stolen animals...which I hear is on the rise, btw. It could tell the history of a pets ownership(like a car fax)!! |
I did chip Tibbe and so glad I did. If it gives me only a 1% better chance to get him back, it's well worth a bit of pain and I think he'd agree if he knew what it was for. If chipping me would get him back more easily, I'd get one! |
Absolutely, definitely in favour of chipping all pets. The first thing a dog warden, vet or rescue will do is scan for a chip (almost always) |
Yes, ZoE is chipped. Heaven forbid she was ever lost, but if she ever was, I'd want the best chance of being reunited with her again. |
Gina will be getting chipped, when she gets spayed, and her front dew claws removed. I know it's a lot to do at once, but better 1 time then 2 or 3. Gina is in general training right now, but I intend to have her trained as my service dog, so the microchip will be a must IMHO. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork |
Yes, Yazmin's been microchipped. I had it done while she was being spayed. |
We're getting Cherry microchipped when we get her spayed. |
Gigi is microchipped. It was all taken care of by the breeder. So no worries... |
Both my dogs are microchipped. They were both awake when it happens and they didn't even move so I doubt it hurts them. When we got Rufus (he is the youngest), I didn't want to leave him alone at home untill he was microchipped, it's kind of a relive knowing that if something ever happens, you'll have a greater chance of getting them back. |
And when you get the chip, be certain that your vet's clinic loaded in all the correct info onto the website with all your phone contacts. Mine didn't and had Tibbe listed as something other than a Yorkie - can't recall now what it was - and the wrong vet clinic phone number was listed, of all things. When I checked it after Hurricane Sandy, lots of info was just missing, had to update. |
Here, from the vet we get the website where we have to log on and put all our info.. From the website we get a small card with the dog's info and chip number. I always have it with me in my wallet. |
Both Magnus and Zoey got chipped when they got neutered/spayed. Just like what yorkietalkiejilly said... if it gives me 1% or even .05% chance of getting them back, I think both myself and pups won't mind the few seconds of pain. :) In the US, dognappings have been on the rise. Bad economy = high rate of dognapping. So always keep an eye on your pup. Because the purebreds and small breeds are the more popular ones these criminals target. The scam is, dognap the pet and when flyers/posters/ads are out offering reward for the pet, the perp goes to the owner, gives back the pup and takes the reward. Giving any number of excuse like "Oh, I found him roaming around the Walmart parking lot." |
My 3 were micro chipped when they were spayed/neutered. The cost is so low, especially when you think that it could be the one thing that brings your baby back if they ever get lost. I think its one of the most important things to do when you are a pet parent. |
Gracie was chipped when she was spayed. I'm glad they did it when she was under. I could feel the chip in her skin for a few months after it was placed but she never had any discomfort from it. I don't find it so easily now but we have it tested every year to make sure it is working right. |
