| Grooming question? For puppy Hello I have a 4 month old puppy. And I want her to grow into a full coat. She is my very 1st yorkie so I have no idea about coats and such. I will attach a picture of her so you can see what I am talking about... Here are my questions... How long will it take for her coat to grow? The hair around her eyes, do I trim it? Or let it grow? As of now it gets in her eyes and they water. What is the best shampoo to use on a yorkie coat? I am assuming I need one that keeps static and frizz at bay. Right now she is a fuzzy dust bunny I brush her twice a day and also wipe her eyes with eye pads once a day. The Dr said her ears were full of hair? Do I trim the hairs inside the ear? The tops of her ears are trimmed from the breeder as well as her butt parts, I plan in keeping that up. Ok going to try to resize her pictures so I can post them. Also she is 1 lb and 5 oz. if that makes a difference for grooming. |

| You can see how her eye hair pokes her eyes I put it in a clip but the hair on her nose is so short it pokes in her eyes. Do I trim it? Or let it grow out? |

| Aww she's adorable. Lola is 6 months old and 4.5lbs and her hair is halfway between her body and the floor. It would probably reach floor length in another 3 or 4 months. You can cut the hair by her eyes or let it grow, I'm letting Lola's grow, it's mostly out of her eyes now. I let it grow because I don't want to have to keep cutting it. I have to pick eye boogers out of it every day (they're clear). Some people pluck the ear hair, I haven't done anything to Lola's. |

| Don't cut the hair between her eyes, let it grow. Once it grows out, it will weigh down the hair & lay flat. If you cut it, you'll need to keep trimming it to prevent it from poking her eyes. For now, just gently wipe her eyes w/a wet baby terry cloth. Some people use vaseline to help weigh the hair down, don't get any in her eyes. I also use a 4.5" Mustache Comb to comb down the hair between the eyes. I sell it on my site, or you can buy it @ your local pet store. It's a small face comb, one side is very fine like a flea comb. The hair in the ear needs to come out. If not, they can get ear infections. You can pull the hair w/your fingers, it looks like she won't have too much hair in her ears. Just pull the hair coming out of her ear canal, it won't hurt her & it will come out easily. Leave the other hairs in her ear, pulling those actually hurt, or cut them off w/blunt nosed scissors. If she's not scratching or pawing @ her ears & no weird smell coming out of them, she should be fine. Some never needs the ear hair pulled. As for shampoo & conditioner, Yorkie Splash & shine is great. So is Espree & Isle Of Dogs, I love those products so much that I sell it on my site.

| You can also try nursery water to clean her eyes. Zoey had a slight eye infection before so I'd clean her eyes multiple times a day. But I've been using nursery water for several weeks and it's done wonders. |

| There's also a powder that's made for ear hair removal. You sprinkle it in & it absorbs the oil around the hair, which makes it easier to remove. I just make it a habit to do so during bath time. I wouldn't use a shampoo that is used for humans. I was told that it is not the same PH balance & could cause skin irritation on your pets. There are plenty of reasonably priced products. Depending on your budget. There are several threads within YT that can lead you in the right direction. Its really a hit or miss. What works with your yorkie. May not work with another. If you have any additional ?'s please reach out to us. That's what we are here for. We love your pictures. How blessed to have such a lovely baby.!!! XoXo Take care & Good Luck.!

| My little chloe is 7 and it took about 1 year for her hair to reach the floor. While she looked beautiful in a long coat, she would bring in all kinds of yard debris, so I keep it cut shorter now. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Oh she is such a doll!!! She is just so little. Jasper was really small. He is going on 9 months and weighs 3.5#. I really want him to weigh the standard of 6#. However, at this point, I don't know if that is going to happen. Anyway...lol...I kept cutting the hair right around his eyes and as it grew (which is quick) it was poking him in the eyes again. Then he had eye drainage and the crusty stuff sticking to his hair. So, I decided to let it grow. It is finally at a length where it is starting to lay flat and no more crusties in his hair. I say let it grow out. Oh and Jasper doesn't have a top knot. I can keep it cut at a length that doesn't poke his eyes nor be put in a top knot. I use Cowboy Magic on his hair. But there are so many others out there to choose from. I buy from Amazon. Good luck and Congratulations on your new baby.

| How fast the hair grows also depends on the type of coat. Usually silky coats are slow growing, whereas the cottons grow faster and thicker. |
