| The Search! I'm going to do it. I'm going to officially start looking for a dog. I would like a young dog. Female puppy preferred, but honestly, it doesn't really matter. I want to go the rescue/shelter route and I've been watching Petfinder for a long time and not been able to find what I'm looking for. I refuse to go to a BYB. I've asked my friend who runs a rescue to keep an eye out for me. I'm going to contact a couple breeders I've found on YTCA's website but the fees breeders usually charge really turn me off. Not really sure what else to do. I wouldn't turn down a private rehome either. That's basically how Bayleigh came to me, although she was surrendered to the shelter technically. Keep an eye out for me guys. I'm located in Indiana.

| Thanks. I've sent about 10 emails now. I hope to get some replies. I know finding the right dog takes time and I am not going to rush things. Took me about 5 years to finally get a show quality APBT from a breeder that I trust.

| Good luck in your search!! I am also looking to add to my pack. I am kind of passively looking because I think the right pup will find ME lol. I have always had rescues, but I would love to buy from a reputable breeder this time. It's hard though, because I don't want a young pup. I prefer 7 months & up. I have to admit, Im really enjoying the search!

| I forgot to mention that lots of times yorkies are adopted from the larger shelters before they ever make it onto petfinder. Your best bet might be to stop by in person.

| I know a lot of people don't like Craigslist but I found my sweet Roxie (AKC tiny long-haired Chihuahua originally from a good breeder) the first day I started my search. I also know dozens of people in Las Vegas who found their darlings as a rehome on CL. (Just watch for scams but IMO they're obvious.)

| Best of luck on your search! I tried Petfinder for almost a year, filled out many applications for rescue organizations when finally, a rescue upstate about 8 hours from me posted on petfinder a mom and 4 pups, Miley, Hannah, ray, cyrus. so so many people wanted them. we were so lucky to be approved and get Ray, who is now our Yogi! It's well worth the search! |
