| Recommend a Life Jacket? Hello! Hoping someone could recommend a life jacket? I bought one by Outward Bound at Petsmart and after a couple trials, we realized Chloe's hair would get stuck in the velcro, the bottom part wraps around her belly impeding her movement and the life jacket makes her roll/tip over to the side. In other words, this one doesn't work for us and she got pretty upset with me. =( Anyone have experience in buying life jackets? Thanks! |

| I have the ones from Petsmart and they have worked for us for years! I wonder why they aren't working for Chloe?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I have the one by Paws Aboard and it works well for Rhett. We bought it at Petco. Paws Aboard Pet Portrait Gallery: Pet Photos, Dog Pictures, Dog Portraits, Pet Portraits, Dog Photos There are 2 straps that wrap around the bottom and secure with a little bit of velcro and a buckle. If the velcro is catching in her fur, could you maybe put a t-shirt on her first to protect the hair? Here is a couple of pictures of Rhett the first time he went out on the boat. He took to the life jacket right away. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=96535

| Huey has two of the vests from outward hound that we got at Petsmart. Both of them fit wonderfully; the black band with the velcro wraps completely around his midsection and the floater part is only above the water across his back so he can not tip over. The handle runs lengthwise down his back and is very sturdy for picking him up out of the water. Are you sure that you have the correct size on your dog? it doesn't sound like it is fitting properly, like it is too big. The center wrap doesn't impede Huey at all, but he is very long for his size. This is a really old pic, but it shows the proper fit.

| I just tried out the one I bought for my oldest dog this weekend. We went up to the lake and this was my first time putting Princeton in the water(other than the sink for his bath). Unfortunately, he couldn't just wade in off a beach. I had to lift him down off a dock. I thought he would start doggie paddling, but he just froze, scared out of his little doggie mind...and on top of it, he kept pulling his front foot up and it kept getting stuck in the neck strap of his life jacket. I gave up quickly and figured I'd try again in a kiddie pool...but I am afraid that his foot is going to get caught again...and his life jacket is anything but too big for him. It barely velcro's because he's gained so much weight. I got my life jacket at Petco last year. I did see one this year that I liked better. Maybe I'll have to try that. |

| Hated velcro too!! We love our Ezydog lifejacket, just buckles, no under-belly thing.

| I have one from PetSmart, and I don't now how to insert a link on here, but I posted some pics of Gina in hers a few days ago. It fit Gina just fine, and didn't impede her movement at all. Gina dove in face first and came up very fast, face first. We didn't have any problems with the fit, and we got the XXS life jacket. Good luck with finding one that you like, they are a great investment for our dog's safety. Cheers Quad

| Thanks everyone for your responses! Chloe is thin but is 9" in length so the XXS from Outward bound is only 6" and the XS fit her length but I had to really tighten the straps around her girth. I figured that since the XXS was too short the XS might be safer but ended up her elbows were getting stuck since the wrap around part was also long. Plus the neck piece that I thought was a good idea to help keep her head up wasn't really very effective. Hard to explain! It probably has a lot to do with fit too. It took me a while to figure it out since I couldn't see what was happening under water. =( I'll check out the ruffwear and ezydog and stay away from the velcro since we keep her hair long. I don't really want to weigh her down even more with a shirt to keep her hair in since.. well, i hate swimming with a shirt. haha. Thanks all! |

| I had found one for Hot Rod when he was a little squirt, it had straps on the bottom. I liked that one alot except it didn't have the little piece under his chin. I realized that after I saw Maggie May tiring one day during a swim and her little head started bobbing in the water. I got her one from Petsmart with the piece to hold her head up if she would get tired. It's got the velcro and then straps. I guess I don't have any problems with hair getting stuck in the velcro since I usually shave my down in the summertime. I also have a couple of vets that wrap around their bellies and zips up the back and has the thingy for under their chins. I think I got them at Petco and Tuesday Morning. Good luck.

| I need to get Joel a different kind because the one I bought him is too big but the next size down won't fit around his neck. |
