YT 2000 Club Donating Member | You can HELP on a great project or two http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-research.html I posted this in the Health forum. But this forum gets the bulk of the traffic and views, so I thought I would reach out here, to all those folks who love and are passionate about the Yorkie breed. We call those folks "fanciers" of the breed. There are many exciting genetic research projects going on, that could benefit our breed, by locating the genetic markers and developing an accurate genetic test for conditions that affect our breed. It is really quite easy to take a "buccal" swab to submit to this foundation for eventual testing. Buccal is a mouth swab. It only would take minutes of your time, and who knows maybe in 3yrs or in 5 yrs, we could have a better understanding of inherited genomes for cataracts, for epilepsy, for Leggs Perthes, etc. Please take a moment to goto the foundations site, which is linked in the thread I posted. Thank you for your time, and I hope all who love this breed as much as I do, can contribute.

| I will be contacting them. We have a shih tzu with sebateous adenitis and Sophie has congenital cataracts and PRA. Also took my Izzy to the opthamologist for evaluation of structural defect because of heavy eye staining. She is clear of any disease except for possible dry eye. We started a moisturizing ointment and will recheck in 2 weeks. Getting a statement from the opthamologist for het to be used as a control would be no problem. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Bump Bump and a Bump or two This is an easy way to contribute to the health of the Yorkshire Terrier Breed, it costs you nothing but a wee bit of your time. I am so happy that in a little over one years time, through the amazing support of our National Club, and our breed fanciers, who contributed not only money, but buccal swabs, we NOW have a genetic test for a Rare but deadly genetic disease.
