Yorkie Yakker | To neuter or not to neuter.... That is the question... My little baby, Guido is almost 10 months old. He's pretty good about going potty outside, but he occasionally lifts his leg around the house. My parents have 2 yorkies. (1 male/1 female) When we go downt o their house he has an OBSESSION with mounting their MALE dog... He also tries to mark his territory around their house. I suppose it is a dominance thing... I know it is a very standard proceedure but I am a worried mommy about putting my baby under anesthesia. He is a little guy and only weighs about 3.5lbs. Any suggestions?

| I vote for neutering. Anesthesia is my least favorite thing to do to my guys, but the statistics are very good. Be sure to do pre-op bloodwork and review the anesthesia protocol with your vet. Many people here have had their tiny Yorkies neutered/spayed. Keep in mind that dental cleanings with anesthesia will eventually be necessary. I chose to neuter my boys because I believe the health benefits outweigh the risks. The potential lifestyle benefits also outweigh the risks. Intact males are more likely to run in search of females in heat -- and many die getting hit by cars. There is no guarantee, but neutered males are less likely to mark and hump. Best wishes in making your decision.

| I am another vote for neutering Guido. Nowadays, anesthesia is very safe. Just make sure your vet is using the safest one for your pup, and he should do great!

| I agree with Kristin, Cathy and Michelle!! Guido is so adorable! I love Yorkie females, but it seems I've been seeing a lot of handsome/ cute males lately! I just love the boys.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Guido is soooo cute!! I had my Jasper neutered last month at 3.2 lbs. I was also a nervous wreck. They also did his dental and he did GREAT!! I had my YT family to help me through the day of pacing and through the night of questions after he came home. All in all, I am glad I did it and it is now behind us.
