| 2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I don't know what the law is in your area concerning dog bites but I have heard of a three bites and your out sort of rule in some states. From what I can tell by skimming the information below your state has a One Free Bite rule. Below is what I found for your state. I think a training would be a great idea, try to find one that can possibly work with you and your pup on ways to redirect his fear aggressions. If that is even possible. In the mean time, you may want to consider a mussel when he is around small children. Plus its going to take tons of hard work and hours to work with him to find out what makes him tick and triggers the bite instinct. Plus working with him so that he feels comfortable around children. It can be done . . and I wish you much success. I hope your meeting with the dog warden goes well! ![]() Virginia Dog Bite Law The one bite rule: Overview of the "One Bite Rule

Keep us update on the results. If the pup was cornered what did they expect it to do? Put Zig in a crate and never let him around people. Zig will love his crate and feel safe. That's what I do with my rescue Chihuahua b/c she doesn't like strangers.

I hope you find a trainer that can help you. But I think there should be some human training as well. I think as a general rule, there should be close supervision when a child(ren) a puppy/dog are in the same room. Especially if the child is really young like 3 years old.

This is just a story of my experience with my son's Jack Russell terrier, Mandi was 7 years old when my first grandchild came along. Basically Mandi ignored the baby. When Rachel was 2 years old we had what I refer to the Cheerio Caper. Mandi spent a good deal of time over the past two years eating what ever hit the floor under the highchair. Well this one day, Rachel tried to take a Cheerio off the floor for herself, she was a typical two year old. Mandi snapped at her. She did not draw blood or break the skin, but she was trying to make it very clear that if it hit the floor it was hers. Well my son and his wife flipped, could not understand why their now 9 year old dog would bite their child. Surprise, Mandi was not being mean, she was being a dog. No matter the breed of dog, you do not allow small children to corner or mess with the dog period. Mandi went on to live to the ripe old age of 16 or 17 years old and she and Rachel became the best of friends.

My older dog is fear aggressive with strangers and he is aggressive over territory(the couch and the bed and treats) with my SO. He has bitten my SO several times, without growling or barking to warn, but he's never drawn blood. It hurts my SO's feelings more than anything ![]() I am SOOO very careful with him around strangers. I do not let anyone approach him or try to pet him without warning them about him being afraid of people and possibly biting...and I have one friend who brings her child over and she is well aware of the situation and we both watch them together. Luckily Princeton stays away and isn't just going after people. He's afraid of them and while he's curious and may sniff, he'd prefer they don't touch him so he mostly stays away ....but if he were cornered, he'd do the same thing. I know I am responsible for my dog...not just to keep people safe from him, but to keep HIM SAFE from them. I am ALWAYS on high alert when we are out of our house and other people are around. If it were me, I would definitely be teaching my grandkids "no touch" with the aggressive dog...and I would even consider locking the dog up in a crate in a quiet room, while the grandkids are there. One of the things I tried was letting strangers be the "bringer of good things"...which was treats!! It may have helped a little as he did get brave enough to go up and take the treat out of their hand, but he still doesn't want them to touch him. It was really embarrassing to me at first to say "my dog bites"...but now it comes off my tongue like nothing.
