The people who choose to surrender for problems that can be solved with training and patience don't need a pet anyway imo...our dog had a nipping problem a week or two after we had her but surrendering her was not an option. We(me since my husband was deployed) just had to stay on top of it and any other unsatisfactory behaviors. Unfortunately some people don't treat their pets as members of the family....would they give up on their child because of a few potty training accidents or behavior issues? I know and understand why breeders are hesitant about placing such small animals in someone's care especially if they have children. These puppies are their fur babies and if you've had one or a human baby you'd get it too

. I'm just very thankful that there are individuals like you LJ who look at the whole picture instead of just saying "NO!" as soon as it's mentioned you have a child (which pretty much any proud mom would).

I don't understand how anybody can get rid of an animal especially a dog. The only excuse I can think of is that if a person can't afford vet bills and surrender the dog to a rescue. I have something worse. My friend's nephew's wife's mother put her dog in a shelter after Sandy because they had to make repairs on the house. She was supposed to pick up the dog and never came back for it. The dog had medical problems and I'm sure was not adoptable. I'm sure I know what happened to the dog. She also made her daughter give away her dog because she didn't want it around the house. Thank God my friend took the dog and now she has a wonderful home. I hope I never come face to face with this woman (and I use the term loosely).

Thanks for your kind words, and I'm sure you know this has happened to me recently.

I understand all the positive comments toward the previous Owner's possible reasons, but this has really ticked me off. One of the most perplexing things about it is, that Navi (my Chihuahua rescue) is the most well behaved, sweetest animal I've encountered, present Pack Members included !

I just don't understand how someone could even think about giving up this darling little Lady !

Their loss, my gain !

Our rescue's policy is no small children for the small dogs. I was at Pet Smart today and once realized that our policy was justified. A little girl, 5-6 years old with 2 younger siblings and a pregnant mom and a 3-4 month old yorkie. The kids were passing the dog back and forth. Sometimes being held on its back, once around the neck and one leg. The mom was totally unconcerned. All I can see is that poor puppy hitting the floor and injuring the back or breaking a leg. It's just a matter of time before the dog gets injured or a child gets bitten. I do like kids, at least well behaved kids, but I love dogs and don't want either of them hurt.

Funny, I've had so many pups through the years and they have had issues, ohhhhh the stories I could tell....but Never thought of getting rid of one because it had issues...I worked with them I did what I had to do; with the exception of one pup who literally attacked...and he went to Uncle Mick next door!

Yes sometimes people that don't think of their pups as family are selfish, good to be gone from this family...

My kids will both tell you that Lacey, our Yorkiepoo ran our house...if the kids mouthed off or raised their voices to me she would bark, chase them to their room and sometimes nip their buts if they were still doing it on the way...she was like their evil sister and my little angel! Needless to say Lacey raised them well they may have little scars on their buts but they do not shout or argue! I often remember our spats with smiles on our faces and a tone totally opposite to what we were feeling hahahahahahaha....I can not tell you how often that made me laugh....

p.s. When she chased them to their rooms she would also stay in there with them until they calmed down!!!
