I will tell you what not to pay! I paid $2300.00 for Bevo who will be 5 in October. This was before I was educated in byb's and puppy mills. Fortunately, he hasnt had any health issues as of yet, but was a carrier of the dd gene that results in blue born pups. Do your research!!! Find a great breeder that does ALL genetic testing on the parents and then guarantees that pup! Its worth the hunt and definately worth the wait!!!

I also totally agree. Thats why this non-specific breed rescue (Main Line) is so diversed with it's volunteers. It has over 150 foster families for which each family has breed specific experience, including 4 of the volunteer fosters are actually vets! I know, it is amazing! I got JuneBug from a foster mom who had 4 other yorkshires and 2 shih tzu's. She is a retired vet tech and knowing that if I ever have questions or want to even adopt a similar breed of dog, I can ask her specific questions and get answers.

What we paid varied for Merlin 9 years ago was £350 he had 'the good line show background" for Molly 3 years ago £250 and Milo 1 year ago was £180 and Mickey although we didn't hand over any money he cost the most by far in every other sense

I paid $750.00 for Allie at 16 weeks old. She is microchipped, AKC registered and has a full registration (meaning I could breed her and register the puppies). At the same time, I paid $750.00 for Noah, who was 7 weeks old. He is also microchipped, AKC registered with full registration, and got sick with parvo shortly after we brought him home. The breeder offered no help. We paid $7500.00 to keep him alive.
I paid more for Westley (I don't remember off the top of my head how much but it was over $1000.00) and he flew to me from Michigan. He had a health guarantee, is AKC registered but is not microchipped. He came from a highly recommended breeder on yorkietalk. I would buy from her again, and would like to add a little girl later.

Oh, BTW the adoption fee for Scarlett was $400. It was $350 for Cali. I paid it gladly even though neither was in the rescue for extended periods or required extensive medical care because I know the fees will help take care of those pups that aren't so lucky.

With all due respect, I wonder why this was said? It sounds to me like the breeder is just trying to do the right thing for the pup and the buyer?

Welcome to YT & thanks for researching before purchasing. As the saying goes "buy your breeder first".

Tuffy is a broker dog we got before I knew such a thing existed. Bella came from show people who'd held her but then discovered she was going to be over the breed standard of 7 pounds. I wouldn't recommend either of the people we got them from.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that both of my pups are AKC registered. However, had I KNOWN how to properly research breeders when we got Tuffy, we would not have purchased him. He's a great dog, please don't get me wrong, it's just that by purchasing him, we allowed those brokers the space for yet another pup of unknown origins to be sold to an unsuspecting person. This is why I say BUY YOUR BREEDER 1st. Simply having an unaltered AKC dog & then mating that dog is not enough to base buying that puppy who looks so dang cute on a website or in person. It's also how so many pups end up in shelters, with rescues, on CL, puppyfind, and hundreds of other places an outcast pup winds up.

People, it's really up to all of us to stop the indiscriminate breeding of all these dogs. It's truly sickening the huge quantities of healthy dogs that are euthanized every single day in this country & around the world!

I didn't see any red flags in this particular post. A Grade 1/2 murmur usually isn't indicative of long term health problems (unless its still caused by PDA or PFO this far out). It would be a cause not to breed, but not necessarily not to buy a companion pet.
