YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Oh! I meant to say my pup comes with a 1 year health guarantee, is up to date on shots, and a 2 week supply of the food the breeder was feeding her(since I'll be changing her food), and is AKC registered(limited). Hope that helped!!! |

1. A breed specific rescue gives a potential adoptive parent a place to start looking. For example, I can google rescues, Atlanta, Golden Retrievers and be instantly hooked up with no less than 4 in my area that have the type of dog I would like to add to my family. 2. Breed specific rescues tend to be well versed in the specific needs of the breed and the special care they might require (LP, Liver Shunt, etc) so that they can get any necessary treatment in a timely manner. 3. Because they are so well versed in the breed's needs/temperments etc, they are generally very careful in placing the dog in a true fur-ever home. Again, I'm not knocking any rescue. I think there is a place and an incredible need for both types.

| ![]() Yikes! And in reality $10,000 is barely a drop in the bucket as far as vet fees for what can go wrong. ![]()

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() I say God Bless to both types of rescues. But quite frankly, I love a breed specific rescue. And posters imo are very correct, in that the rescue is very well versed in that breed, and that goes across all medical issues, temperament issues, and how to screen for a potential new home. Having a breed like Black Russian Terrier, I would be dancing in my grave, if one of my B lackies got put into a general rescue. And my grave is where I would be if any dog of mine were to be in a rescue. I do beg to differ, but guard work and protect breeds do have specific very specific needs, that imo a general rescue is not equipped to deal with.

That sounds good, so the breeder is covering genetic defects? What happens in year 2 3 4 or 5 years old your dog shows up with a genetic defect. Oh let us say PRA?

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() @gemy...yes she is covering genetic issues. My pup was actually taken for a check up awhile ago where the vet heard a slight murmur. At her 8 week check up nothing was heard. If it's still heard Monday(her next check up) she won't sell me the pup(depending on the vets recommendation) and will either refund me my deposit, give me pick of a little boy I had my eye on that she wanted to keep for herself, or if the murmur is a grade 1/2 I can take the female(if I feel comfortable) and the breeder will cover all medical expenses as stated in my contract. She'll even have the meds available(if the vet prescribes any) on hand so I won't have to worry about getting prescriptions filled even I pick her up. She's Fantabulous!!!! |

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Oh! And pet insurance is a must! We have it on our bulldog we haven't needed it for anything yet...thankfully! But worse case scenario, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. ![]() |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() Great and I am really glad to hear that. Just another note on that heart murmur business. Many heart defects are genetic and or congenital, so if the female has something wrong, you might just want to pass on her.

| ![]() Exactly what I was thinking. Main line gets a lot of support from celebs which make there jobs easier there are other rescues who don't and have to earn the money through regular people.
