I'm back to searching. This post predates pstinard. I'd be happy to have a discussion sometime on the DD gene, but this thread specifically was about what health tests should buyers look for. |
Here are two things from the YT library that might be helpful: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...ml#post4142424 |

Gemy has some posts like the one you are talking about maybe you could search her threads. |

When I put in a search term, and enter, it comes up with a blank page. |
I don't know if this will work. It's all of the threads started by Gemy. She most definitely should be able to help you with this. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sea...archid=6585350 |
Its a broker...their disclaimer is p the front of the page...arrghhhh Lancaster Puppies | Puppies for Sale in PA & OH |
For one thing I don't know why someone who wanted a Yorkie would be interested in those pups. Also I thought I had bookmarked the following thread but I did not. I will this time. Gemy posted this not too long ago and it is VERY informative. Maybe it will help you. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...s-yorkies.html |

This is the one I was looking for. I had worked my way down to page 100 and was taking a break... Thank you so much, I was going crazy because I knew it was somewhere, I just didn't know where. (page 82, I was almost there, lol) It's called ignorance. She came to me excited, because she thought they were something good and I set her straight on that. My dogs are really the only decent looking dogs in the neighborhood, and Sabre doesn't have the right hair. Everyone else has yorkies that look like those one.. long faces, scraggly fur, I mean very very very substandard. So if what she sees looks just like those puppies, how is she to know better? I spent the better part of an hour with her, showing her pics of yorkies that are of high quality so she could see the difference in what she sees on the street, and what a good yorkie looks like and even how MY OWN dogs fall short of the standard. Hopefully she's taken something away from it. Hopefully she won't go to that site again... Hopefully... And now I am going to bookmark that thread, and when we talk again, probably tomorrow, I'm going to give her some more information on finding a good yorkie. |
those poor pups// so glad that you are educating her |

And here is one that was stickified: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...ml#post4142424 |
OOps IT seems like you found what you were looking for. Thank God you have got through on the "blue borns". and all I can say is OMFL. And may I say those pics look not like a purebred YOrkie? But after being wrong on another thread.... that big one you know "I am getting a dna test done, then what?" I hesitate to even post this opinion. All you can do for your friend is print out what you think might help educate her, and support her in her decision to find a good breeder. |
I'm still scratching my head over that one. One would think that one the genetic markers for the breed would be... I don't know... the LONG FUR GENE... It makes me wonder if a dog that is so off from the breed phenotype.. just how accurate the DNA test is. I mean, I remember when the test was first released a women did one on her champion Am Staff and it came back half border collie quarter bulldog, quarter boston terrier, and I can kinda see the last two, because the three breeds do share a genetic base, but half border collie?? And in that thread someone did say they knew of a pure shepherd that they had bred themselves for 6 generations coming back not a pure shepherd so... *shrugs* I just don't know. In the merle thread, someone did say how there are those "gaming the system" by back crossing for color then breeding back to yorkies and these dogs after a number of backcrossing are testing as pure, when we know and they know they're not. I haven't run into her tonight, but I txt her that thread URL, as well as most of the others that were posted, so she knows what to look for in a breeder... I think the phrase I can show you better than I can tell you apllies here, and I do think me showing her what a high quality yorkie looks like compared to what was being offered on that site showed her better than anything that I could tell her, you know? I'm just hoping and praying that it gets through to her. It's just sad that sites like that even exist. It's sickening that there is such a demand for dogs that isn't being met, and so these people have a ready market for their poorly bred dogs. All dogs to deserve homes, all dogs deserve to be love... But let's be honest, not all dogs deserve to be bred. And if fewer people bought these dogs, fewer of them will be bred. |
