| YT Addict | One morning a few weeks ago I let Maggie and Bogey out in their small fenced in area and noticed that some mushrooms had popped up overnight. Thank goodness they decided to bark at them instead of eating them  My husband put gloves on and got rid of them immediately but now I'm worried they could be deep down under the grass. They are both always trying to eat grass, leaves and whatever else is non-edible. We have a lawn care service who comes out and fertilizes and puts down weed killer, but we don't allow them on the side of the house where the dogs go. Other than pulling the mushrooms out, is there a way to naturally kill them so they don't grow back?

I've heard vinegar will somewhat help but it will also kill your grass. I usually get them by digging into the dirt a little & taking the whole thing. Mushrooms release spores that then grow other mushrooms so best to get rid of them when you first see them.

| Here's a great article on lawn mushrooms--what they are and how to get rid of them. The most crucial thing is removing their food source (rotting organic matter) and keeping humidity down as much as possible. Removing the mushrooms as soon as you see them helps too because it helps reduce the number of spores being spread. The complete article: Control Mushrooms In Your Lawn |

| The bleach will probably kill the above-ground part, but it might still have living parts underground and send up more tops later. Keep an eye on them and let us know if they come back. |

| Use lime. Reduces the acid. The Mushrooms won't grow. They grow rapid in my area. Lime in the Spring and Fall is a must. Lime isn't toxic ..as long as your dog doesn't have its head in the bag Srpead out and watered in its fine.http://gardening.wsu.edu/library/lpro006/lpro006.htm Last edited by ironmike86; 06-22-2013 at 04:45 PM. |

| Parvo is rampant in the Dallas area right now. The rain brings it to the surface, and it lives in the ground for 10-15 years!! I personally know 3 people who have had to take their dog to the vet and 2 had to have them put down.
