| ![]() Oscar does not like being picked up by anyone other than Me.. Everywhere we go people always want to hold and cuddle him. I simply tell them " I am sorry He does not like being held/picked up " ![]() A couple people are put off by this but I don't care.. Anyway , He is the Boss ![]() |

| ![]() Our best friend loves to come over and pick up our pets. That being said, he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. A few years ago he picked up a tiny kitten we had just adopted (she was barely 2lbs at the time) and let her leap from his arms. He is 6'7 so that was way to far for her to jump from at that age and that size. Luckily she was not hurt. A week ago he came in and picked up Wallee. From my DH and my experience, we know he loves to be picked up, however when he wants down he will start wiggling. We know the signal so hold him tight and tell him to be calm while we put him down slowly. Well, wouldn't you know it, Mr Dumbass was holding Wallee and I see Wallee wiggle and jump down onto the kitchen floor he landed. I saw him land badly and it knocked the wind out of him...OMG.. I was pissed. I scooped him up to check him and thank God he was ok...DON'T LET ANYONE PICK UP YOUR DOG! |

| ![]() [QUOTE=KazzyK810;4244830]No. I don't let people hold her. I don't trust people, and I also don't trust that ZoE wouldn't try to get away from someone, and fall & get hurt. It's just not worth the risk. ![]() Ask that lady who was sitting at a sidewalk bistro and allowed some lady at the next table, to hold her baby....then watched as the ladyjumped up and took of! Ask my friend who allowed someone in Home Depot, to hold her precious little baby, then watched horrified as the lady turned and ran from the store with her little dog. Ask my cousin, who allowed someone to hold her precious little dog while at a book store....hundreds of people milling around, and she allowed the lady to hold her puppy....lady fled with puppy in her arms....People STEAL Yorkies every chance they get....why in the world would anyone allow a stranger hold their puppy, and then been stunned and amazed when the person dashes off with the pup????? DUH!!! Then there was ME, who allowed a cousin to hold one of my dogs....only she was "holding" the dog like it was made of crystal, and the pup literally just jumped from her lap, hit the floor, a screamed bloody murder.....I went balistic.....fortunately, puppy was NOT killed or even injured by the fall.....have NO idea why baby was not killed by the fall....but I certainly learned MY lesson....NO ONE holds my dogs, strangers or family. NOT a risk I choose to take! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 06-15-2013 at 02:13 AM. |

| ![]() Nope. No touching, petting or holding at all. I don't trust people and who knows what is on their hands.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() Yup, like the majority of you, I allow no-one to hold my dog. They can pet him when he is on the ground. In meet the Breed days at shows, in the Yorkie booth, we ask the children to sit down on the floor to meet the Yorkies. And for the most part these are adult Yorkies, ranging from 8mths old and up.

| ![]() I let Sam decide who gets to pet him. He's pretty cautious around new people. If we are out, he is always in harness and on leash. If someone wants to pet him, I tell them he is shy and may not let them. If he cringes in the least, that's the end of it. I will turn away with him in my arms. If he is agreeable, he will stretch out his neck for them to scratch or rub. I've never had anyone ask to hold him, other than family. That is reserved for the vet or groomer.

| ![]() I don't like people petting or holding Nena or Rufus. Sometimes people just pet them without asking..I get furious and tell them not to do it again. If they ask, I may let them pet them on the head and that's it. Nena loves it more than Rufus (Rufus starts jumping and biting if he's not ion the mood). And I always put them together, that way Rufus annoys the person and they stop fasted ![]() I would never let anyone hold them (anyone that I don't know)

![]() ![]() When Max was a puppy, a couple of people picked him up without supporting his rear end. After I saw that, I decided no more. I'm sorry your little Draco was injured. When my brothers visit, Max likes to go on their laps and flip over on his back for a belly rub. It makes me so nervous because Max is accustomed to me or my father spotting him. I have to remind my brothers to make sure Max doesn't fall from the couch or chair. I also have to be careful with petting in public. Everyone wants to stick their fingers in Max's eyes and rub in circles on his topknot. Max is tolerant of it, but Teddy is not.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | ![]() I agree you should be cautious. I do not like anyone picking up Galen. When he sees someone he gets so excited and wants to give lots of kisses but he is very squirmy. I am so afraid that someone is going to drop him so I say sorry please do not handle him.

| ![]() As with the majority I do not let people hold Sophie Kate. She is my baby and there is no way in H#&@ I would expect anyone let me, a complete stranger hold their baby.

| ![]() Thanks for all your responses! It's good to know that my protectiveness is a good thing for Draco. I've been around tons of dogs, but it never occurred to me to pick them up. And while working in retail, there's always ask before petting a dog that came into any stores. But if they were in a bag or something, I felt uncomfortable getting that close to a stranger to pet their dog, and never asked. Even at a friends the only way a dog would kinda be picked up by me if I were sitting and they came and were own my lap, but wouldn't try to carry the dog around the house. This really has helped me feeling more comfortable though, Draco seeks out people's attention and is still working on socializing him, so these were all good to here for when we're in public.
