| Can I take my puppy outside? He's 12 weeks old and just got his 2nd round of vaccines on Saturday. Is it safe to take him outside for walks? I live in a closed community and most people have dogs, so he would be walking where LOTS of other dogs have been. Should I wait until he gets his 3rd round at 16 weeks or after the Rabies shot? I feel so bad for him, I want him to go outside! But at the same time I dont want to risk anything ... When did you take your puppy outside for the first time? Also, here's a pic of him I took yesterday

| Definitely wait for his shots to be final. Parvo is a big concern and if not fully vaccinated against it, he can still get it. By the way, Bentley is adorable!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Right after their shots, they are extremely vulnerable, so they recommend 2 weeks after their final or 16 weeks shot, so that means around 18 weeks they are safe. You can carry him as many places as possible, it’s good for him to see as much as possible the first few months. I wouldn't worry as much about the rabies; it's very unlikely she'll come in contact with a rabid animal, if you're with her. He's just so adorable!

| I waited until all the shots were done. She did go out, but only in my backyard.

| He is so cute!! I was told to wait until about two weeks after the last round of shots. I know, it is *so* hard to wait though--but it is for his safety.

| I would wait two weeks after his last shots. Parvo can kill your dog and it Lepto is in your area that can as well. Not worth the risk.

| Aw he is adorable! Makes me want a puppy again. I agree with the others, wait 2 weeks after he gets his last series. It is not worth the risk, trust me Bentley can wait! Also when you do take him out, if you take him to Petco/ Petsmart. Never stick them IN the cart. I use to work at the Benfield Vet in Petsmart, I cannot tell you how dirty those shopping carts are, I also can’t tell you how many people carted their dogs in the Vet with them in the cart- while having Parvo, bloody stools and vomit all over the cart. I never seen Petsmart throw the carts away or disinfect them for that matter. To this day I never stick Pnut in a cart.

| Agreed. Absolutely wait. As you even pointed out "LOTS of other dogs...". 12 weeks is really still too young. I think everyone has pointed out the reasons. Congrats!

| omg he's so cute!!! And yes, wait! A few more weeks won't take too long, and it's not worth the risk.

| I've never ever heard of anyone waiting until 16+ weeks to let their dog outdoors. Do you have your own yard? I know you said there is lots of dogs in your neighborhood, but if you have your own space, you can at least bring pup out there. I cannot even fathom keeping a puppy inside for that long! I've known many many dogs throughout my life and they were always taken outside as soon as they were brought home. I think being cautious is not a bad thing (no dog parks, or pet store floors, etc) but I honestly think they have more of a chance of picking up something going to the vets office than in your own yard. Jax had already experienced snow, rain, mud, grass, by that age, and they are crucial socialization periods.
