Breeding Can anyone tell me, if my female went into "heat" today Monday December 26th, about which day she will be most ready for conceiving?

I have heard not to breed them on their first heat. Maybe you should be researching breeding and having a mentor if this is something you really want to do.

Yes, wait till the second heat to breed. Do you know if she is breeding quality? What her lines are? Her faults, so you can pick out the correct male to breed her to - to minimize these faults and hopefully breed out? What male you plan to breed her to? Is he of top qiuality? Any reputable responsible breeder should know these answers. I am not saying you don't - just words for thought. T.

| I'm not a Breeder, but I was told Yorkies should really be at least 2 years old before they breed. This came from our Vet who is a Yorkie Breeder and wanted me to know in case I was going to breed Princess. Breeding takes a lot of research. I don't want to upset you in any way, but this is a question you could answer if you did all your research to be a Top Breeder. If you are going to breed your furbaby, I wish you a healthy litter. Please research as much as you can before you breed. If Princess weighed more, (she's almost 5 pounds) I might have let her have a litter, but from what I read, it was best for me to leave the breeding to the Breeders. What ever you decide, I wish you only the best.

Not that anyone is "stepping on my toes" but before you pass judgement you should know all the details. I have bred dogs before and was very successful. It has been several years and I just could not remember the day that the female would be ready. We did not want to miss this opportunity. I have done a lot of reading. We are not breeding for "show" dogs. We have a couple of friends who want a puppy just to love. My daughter who has the female lives 150 miles from me. She called tonight that she has gone into heat. This is her second heat and now we are trying to coordinate our days to get the dogs together as I have the male. I have read several different articles and was hoping that someone could give me some first hand information.

She is big enough to breed in fact we have been told that she is the perfect size. She is about 7.5 pounds and my little fellow is almost four pounds. This will more than likely be the one and only time she is bred, depending on how well she does.

Before you breed, make sure you have the needed tests done to make sure she and he (both dogs) does not pass on any health problems to her pups or your friend might not be a friend after this. Just a friendly suggestion. T.
