| Greetings to all of you,,,,, First timer here and hoping we can solve this very disturbing happening. Our 2 1/2 year old Bella, just had her first litter of 4 puppies and everything had been going on just fine until we noticed, she is losing quite a bit of her hair on her sides. She had never had a whole lot of hair along her sides so this had become quite noticeable. I had the vet check her out and Xray indicated she was carrying 4 puppies,,Yeah,!! Unfortunately we lost the first born male but she had two other males and a single female. The puppies are now 7 weeks old and are in good health and very energetic,!!! We noticed Bella was losing her hair about 2-3 days ago. Another thing to note is that after she had the puppies, she was panting all the time even tho she always had clean fresh water available to her. Can anybody help with some suggestions and do we need to be worried???? |

| If this were my dog, I would take her to the vet for a work-up, and be sure to have them check for Cushing's Disease.

| The panting after she had puppies is very normal. Also some females do get thinning hair while they are nursing puppies due to the puppies climbing on them and scratching them with their paws? Have you been keeping the nails clipped on the puppies? Also hormone changes can cause hair loss. If she is having skin issues along with the thinning hair or excessive scratching then I would recommend a visit to the vet

| My daughter's Maltese lost a lot of hair after she had her one and only litter... she called her vet and they said it was normal. |

| It's calling blowing a coat and is common for pregnant dogs or ones that recently had a litter. Not all of them do this but it is normal. It has to do with the hormones. It will grow back but she may keep doing this if you plan on breeding her again. Destiny had this problem. Her hair would grow back in between litters but would blow out again when she was pregnant. She is retired and spayed now and since then her coat has been thick and beautiful.
