OMG!!!! I am absolutely dumbstruck with this WONDERFUL discovery of a true live geneticist as a contributing member on this forum.....my God.....pinch me ....have I died and gone to heaven???????????? My interests gravitate around the dreaded liver shunts and the advancements made toward ID'ing the gene responsible for that, as well as a test that can be done on a dog to determine if that dog carries that gene. I have closely followed the work of Dr Tobias and the University of Tenn.and her extensive work in this area.....so far, I have not found anything that has been written that has gotten us closer to actually nailing the gene and then testing for it....maybe when convenient, you can find any informnation in this area of research and share this with us!!!

Hi, I was following the Liver Shunt story earlier this Spring. I believe that the DNA test work was being done by Dr. Sharon Center at Cornell. I'll check later and see if there are any updates or new publications on her progress. If I find anything, I'll start a new thread, because I don't want to hijack this one .

Hi to the OP! I just checked in to YT and saw a message about this thread. Im very sorry you have had a blue in your litter. My advice is to QUIT READING the internet. You will only scare and worry yourself to death just as I did. He is what he is, and only God know what he will become. I have come across quite a few blue borns since the birth of Mack (my blue). I will not lie, most have not made it. BUT, my Mack and the other blue on this forum, Angel (and there are 2 more as well), are proof that they can survive and thrive. Mack turned 2 this past February. I will not say it has been an easy road with him because we have had some ups and downs. However, he is a beautiful, sweet, happy boy today. He is the white yorkie in my avatar pic. He has truly been a blessing and I cant imagine life without him. You MUST spay/neuter both parents and make sure ALL of this litter PLUS precious litters DO NOT breed. The gene will be passed on! Save yourself and others the heartache of what might come with blues. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to PM me at any time. I will be praying for your baby!

On another note...what an interesting turn this thread has become! What wonderful info!!!!

It's been almost a week now, and still no reply. I'm a little surprised, but maybe their staff is on vacation. I'll send them another email if I haven't heard from them by the end of the week. What I'm really interested in hearing, though, is an update from the OP. I'd like to know how the Blue Yorkie is doing...
