| Mr. Willie from Oakville Ontario This is Mr. Willie, my first Yorkie, my first small breed as well (my German Sheppard past away last year) I have adopted him from a family that is moving quite far and were unable t bring him along. He's coming on 5 years old, a bit shy but has been warming up to his new family, baby steps of course. I am giving him his peace and quiet but he's been coming around. Very quiet, haven't heard a sound (that may change) I have yet to find a treat he likes, his last family had him on cat food and temptations for cats, but I'm not taking that route. One small pic of Willie: http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...IMAG0063_1.jpg Any fellow Yorkie parents in Oakville could recommend a good groomer would be appreciated. |

| OMG!!! How precious! Why in the world did they have him on cat food?? You are doing the right thing by stopping THAT practice....have you had him to the vet yet? There may be some blood work you want to have checked, just to make sure that cat food has not had adverse effects on any organs.....kidneys, liver, pancrease, etc. Be sure your vet know he has been fed a steady diet of cat food......Thank you for taking over the care of this young man....you will be falling in love, hopelessly in love with him, very quickly.....Treats? I give my Yorkie only treats that humans eat....there is a huge problem with treats KILLING our dogs because of the stuff they put in the treats from China....so long ago, I stopped giving any kind of doggie treats....I give mine Cheerios, Fruit Loops, Sugar Smacks, animal crackers, bits of graham crackers, Teddy Grahams, Cheddar Gold Fish, vienna sausage pieces, green beans, and I bought my own dehydrator so I can do dehydrated chicken pieces, liver pieces, gizzards, chicken hearts, etc.....mine also like tiny pieces of apple, pear, peaches, pineapple (never feed grapes or raisins, these are toxic to dogs). |

| Ditto to the above. Welcome to YT and very nice to meet you and Mr. Willie. He is so adorable!! Yup, gradually get him changed over to a healthy toy breed dog food after consulting with a vet. As for treats, Mandie loves carrot sticks, green beans, zuke's chicken and peanut butter, and blue buffalo bits. I'm sure she would love cheerios, but I'm slow on the uptake and still haven't gotten any for her.

| I just remembered this.....Cat food's odor is much more intense than dog food, so some people will feed catfood to a pup that is a picky eater. I know cat food is higher in ash and that would be my concern if fed over an extended period of time......if you run into problems getting Mr.Willie to eat dog food, maybe a little cat food that he is used to eating, mixed in with his dog food.....or maybe a little tuna fish or salmon crumbled up in the dog food will help....Royal Canin is usually pretty palatable to dogs, if you see he is indeed picky and wont eat..... |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Mr Willie is adorable, and almost looks like a little statue in that pose I am surprised that he isn't overweight, eating cat food. I've heard that it is too high in fat and protein for dogs (but may be mistaken). Anyway, good that you are getting him on an appropriate food for a dog, and hope he will accept the change. It will be like taking a kid off a diet of candy and getting them to eat real food.

| So sorry for your loss. But very happy God got you a Yorkie. I am sure he will be happy and loved in your home. What a cute little Yorkie fellow. I agree no more cat food. You can get him to eat a good dog Kibble by putting a little water packed tuna, mackerel, or salmon. I have done this with picky foster dogs to get them to eat kibble.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | You asked about a good groomer in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Go to the Canadian Yorkshire terrier site; and I think you will find one near to you. I groom my own, and when I get into trouble I go to my breeder who is up north of Toronto, Ont. Loretta Serafina, might be the one to contact as she is in Oakville too.

| What a handsome little guy!! Hope he doesn't have any problems related to eating cat food. If regular dog food doesn't work, then fry up some red meat and add it to the kibble, or just feed him red meat, vegetables such as steamed carrots, green beans, broccoli, squash, and then some quinoa mixed in. He won't turn his nose up at real food. I home cook and swear by it. For snacks, mine get cheerios, berries, home made dog bones, raw carrots, yogurt cheese and a few other things.

| Welcome to YT. Your little man is adorable. I have picky eaters and I sprinkle a small amount of ground up boiled chicken breast on their kibble. They gobble it right up. I also use several of the above mentioned for treats not store bought ones.
