According to the figure captions for the PCA analysis, Minnie was compared with Yorkshire Terriers (US Show) and Yorkshire Terriers (UK Show). To me, that means that MARS used only DNA from show dogs in their comparisons with Minnie's DNA. It's interesting that the US Show dogs clustered more closely together, and that the UK Show dogs were more spread out (showed more diversity). (Sorry that doesn't answer your question, but it's something I just noticed, so I had to throw it out there.)

Back to the question... Yes, Minnie is a Yorkie, but the breeder did knowingly sell a poor representation of the Yorkie standard. (Wait for the hair to grow longer?!?!??? Give me a break!!!) I think that if this ever went to court, Cristina (Minnie's breeder) could argue that at least Minnie is genetically a Yorkie. If push came to shove, a parentage test could be ordered to determine whether Minnie is the offspring of the reported parents, but I'm guessing that the results of such a test would favor the breeder :(. Minnie is the result of a breeder who didn't know what she was doing, but at this point, I don't think there is much that Jen can do about it. Cristina has other ads on ebay, but it looks like her dog breeding is more of a sideline than a profession--I don't know whether her litters and breeding program are registered with the AKC. If I were Jen, I'd file a complaint with the AKC. I don't know what else she can do at this point other than love Minnie as a very special and unique dog.

If she has demodex it can explain the hairloss. She's beautiful regardless, I have a chihuahua with demodex just need to take extra care. If you keep up with her treatment she should look like all other dogs!

Even if she is purebred which I doubt the breeder NEEDS to give you some compensation. Demodex mange is transferred from mom to offspring so ALL her brothers and sisters have it. I think you need to get on her case! I did it with my chihuahua and the breeder gave me back half the money which was $250 my chihuahua was going bald and I spent way more on vet bills! Truly ridiculous I don't think there should be any breeders besides show breeders!!

Good point about the demodex! We were so caught up in the DNA aspect that we almost forgot--Jen does have a case for getting some money back due to Minnie's health issues. I hope Cristina (Minnie's breeder) does the right thing...

I agree!! Thankfully my breeder was sweet but I will fight it because my poor baby has bald spots and that's now what you paid for!

IF Jen can find out if her state has the puppy lemon laws, she CAN get ALL moneys she has put out on vet bills from the mange, back from the breeder. Any GOOD breeder would have already offered to pay those bills AND at the very least a partial refund for the purchase of the pup. What this breeder does now WILL tell IF her intentions are HONORABLE or not;) AND when anyone Googles this breeder from here on out YT & this thread WILL pop up for ALL to see, so it would be in the breeders best interest to do rite by Jen;)

Who is the breeder? I only know her by baboon or Christina.

It has not been said, you may need to PM Jen for this info. IF I were Jen & going through this I WOULD Deff post that info to protect any future buyers. It Will come out before it's over with.

Financially this isn't cheap because she's been there prolly 4 times for this condition already. I'm taking her back again today because there prolly going to add something else to it and add another round of treatments. They may end up having to shave her and do a cream who knows. But she's my baby and ill do whatever it takes to make her better. She didnt ask for this but she has it and as her mommy it's my job to make sure thst happens :) I would appreciate it if the breeder would have offered something but can I make her ?? Who knows i don't know enough details yet but well c.

The first important point is that the test is not designed as a purebred test. Second point is they are only talking about the last 3 generations, and for most dog enthusiasts, this is way too limited.

As I stated earlier, this test measures against previous results. It’s considered one of the weakest forms of testing there is, however as they get a get a wider base, closer to 100 thousand or a million, the results will be much more dependable. With only 10,000 dogs in the sample, the results just aren’t that accurate in my opinion, since the genetic code of dogs is just so varied.

To preserve your rights under the Law, you must take your newly purchased dog to a licensed veterinarian for examination within 10 days of purchase. (a) Return the dog for a complete refund; (b) Return the dog for a replacement dog of equal value; OR (c) Retain the dog and receive reimbursement for reasonable veterinary fees, not exceeding the purchase price.These options do not apply where a seller, who has provided a health certificate issued by a veterinarian, discloses in writing at the time of sale the health problem for which the buyer later seeks to return the dog.

This law is similar to Florida, my advice would be to talk to the breeder yourself and try to resolve this. Believe it or not the court has better things to worry about and if she has a good lawyer which most do, they will find a crack. I would attempt to settle this calmly,I usually have my husband talk for me in cases like this to be like the mediator. If that doesn't work have an attorney write a letter, you need resolution and Im sure like most of us you have spent a lot of money in the purchase of your yorkie. In my area they are not below $1500 and although you love your puppy, she makes money and she needs to realize she's made a mistake. Im sure she looked DIFFRENT and Im sure the siblings have the same problem as you. Im empathize with you deeply!

As much as the breeder says she loves her dogs I do believe her but in the same matter she is completly aware of the situation I'm in w Minnie with my concerns w her apparence and skin condition and and didnt act concerned about her apparence. or mention n e thing bout money to me. She said its cuz of her skin condition butbits not that cuz before her skin condition arrived her look was off. Her look was off at time of getting her. Did she really not think it was? I'm def not that type of person to ask for help but I am the type to expect to much out of people I guess :(

If Jen's breeder is just a person breeding her personal pets, and sells them directly to the public , and she's not a license business, none of those puppy laws apply to her. No law suit well hold up in court, Talk to the USDA, and your states Department of Consumer Affairs. Buying a puppy out of someone's house,..... same thing as buying something from their garage sale. Buyer Beware!
