| So upset... My boyfs cat (who normally lives at his dad's) was coming to stay with us for xmas as his dad is going away. She is 10 years old and I now hate her. She came into the lounge and we brought Tino over to say hi, and the cat hit him!!!!!! The pup hadn't done anything!! I have never heard such a blood curdling scream in my life. He went and hid under the couch but I caught him and cuddled him till he stopped crying. I checked him over and he is ok. About 10 minutes later, I went to put him down to have some food but as soon as I put him on the floor, he started crying and jumping at me to get back up. I have never been so sad and angry in all my life. Needless to say after an argument with my boyf, the cat was sent back to his dads. We have only had Tino a week and he was just getting used to his territory. Anyway, he's asleep now, I think he should be ok once he wakes up. |

| Sorry this happened. They probably would have been okay if you just kept them separated. My cat hates my dogs too and she swats at them. They dont get upset though they just bark at her. She usually just stays away from the dogs.

| I agree with Chachi. Our cats would swat the pups when we first got the puppies. Sometimes they would attack them (I will say without provocation), but now the pups give her about a 1 foot safety zone (their safety). All six will surround the cat and it is hilarious. If she swats, they all start barking madly! I won't let them do it for too long or too often as the cats are people, too. They are members of our family and should be allowed to come in if they want to.

| If the cat is de-clawed..he shoudl not be able to hurt the pup...and animals have to find their boundries and territory....sometime they will get along and others they won't....

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Awwwwwww.....poor baby - dont be hatin the cat ! It's normal for them to not instantly like each other - maybe next time try to introduce them slowely ? I hope he recovers from his trauma ...they are such little babies I would feel so bad too but that was pretty normal for a cat and a dog |

| I agree. Don't be too mad at the cat. I think it was a normal reaction on her part. She has to teach the pup to leave her alone. Once he's learned that lesson, they will probably get along. |

| Oh Please Don't Hate The Cat, she/he was probably scared and that is the only defense they have. Cats and Dogs can learn to live together but it takes time and you must go slowly and it needs to be closely supervised. Remember the cat was also scared because he was in a new home with a new little dog and was scared. You also have to be very careful with a cat if it has claws as it could put a dogs eyes out. I had a friend years ago that this happened to and the dog lost one of his eyes. I also have 2 cats with my gang but they now own the living room and dining room which I have fenced off and the dogs can't go in there. I was okay with 5 dogs and the 2 cats but once my number when up to 7 dogs they all went after the cat and had him down. I was scared to death that they thought he was a rat and they were in the pack mode and might really hurt the cat. So I immediately jumped in and from that day forward the cats have their rooms and the dogs have the rest of the house.

| I am not a cat person but I do tolerate them when I HAVE to. But, it sounds like that was just a cat being a, well, cat!! The fact that we make such a fuss when something like this happens just re-enforces to our puppies that it really is a big, bad thing. I am sorry to hear it happened and I hope this incident does not create tension between you and BF. I have NEVER seen a cat take to any other animal right away. Doesn't even have to be a dog-they are snotty with another kitty. At a later date, I would try to work with them to help them find a comfortable existence with each other, especialy if it looks like you and BF are gonna be spending any amoount of time with BF's dad and his cat... |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | aww, don't be mad at the cat! We have 2 and that sounds like a normal cat reaction to me! Remember, she was scared too. She was just being a cat! Next time, give it a while, I've never seen a cat take to any animal right away. Good luck!

| I'm not so sure she didn't do the correct thing. Her puppy is barely six weeks old and very tiny. She probably doesn't know if the cat has had all of its vaccinations, either. This is how tiny he is:

| I am VERY wary of cats around Higgins. Years ago a had a Toy Poodle puppy as well as a cat. The cat seemed totally unconcerned with the pup, and the pup didn't bother the cat. One day the pup was just walking by the cat and she whipped out her claw and got him in the eye! Put a hole in the eye and he ultimately went blind in that eye. Be VERY careful with pups around cats! |

| A similar situation happened to us. Two summers ago, my parents and I were going to Branson, MO for a week for summer vacation. We had a dilemma about where to leave Lacey. Because we could not bring her to Branson with us. We decided not to leave her at a kennel because the only time we ever left her at a kennel, she grieved terribly for us. And almost starved because she would not eat. So, we decided to leave her at my nanny's house. My nanny has cats. I put Lacey down on the floor to see if it would work out. And the cat hissed at her and took a swat at her. So, I immediatly picked my baby up and said no way. I could not worry a whole week in Branson and worry about the cat seriously hurting her. So, we left Lacey at the house because we had no other choice. And my nanny came by twice a day to feed her, change her paper, give her some water and attention. My brother was in and out checking on her too.

| My cat Luigi (big boy) was licking his chops when he first laid his eyes on Lola...that's when Lola was only 3 lbs. He would crouch down and stare at her with his tail going back-and-forth. I would clap to make him go away. But, being the big, bold girl that she is now...she just trots up to Luigi wagging her stump and Luigi takes off running. |
