| Mutt Nose Best...U Tick Me Off I heard about this company on one of threads, and decided to look into their products. One or maybe some of their products contain avacado oil. Since avacados are poisonous for dogs, I couldn't comprehend why they would use the oil. I emailed the company, and this is their reply... Hi *******, Thank you for your inquiry. The veterinarian consultant that we work with assures us the the avocado oil we use is NOT from the portion of the avocado that contains the high amounts of pectin that is of concern. To be safe, until we can get a second opinion I am pulling it from our formula. Thank you for your help, I am confident our ingredients are safe but it is better to be safe. -- Make It A PAWSitive Day! | Wow, lady! Great job! You got them to take it down and that's huge. Obviously they hadn't a clue until you told them this. Scary that people peddle anything on the internet and others buy anything for their dogs that sounds good! I think what you did is great. Better keep an eye on them, you WatchDog!!! And I had no idea Avocados had high levels of pectin isolated to only a certain area and even if they did, how could they always be sure just that portion never ever made it into the mixture??? That's taking an awful chance. Good work!

Ask a vet: If avocados are dangerous for dogs, what's up with avocado dog food? - latimes.com Since the avocado oil in the product in question (U Tick Me Off) is for external use, I'm sure that your Yorkie is likely to ingest only minimal amounts when it licks its fur, so I wouldn't be worried... | To tell the truth, I wouldn't use that product either, mainly because I question its effectiveness. Ticks are built like tanks and are hard to kill. I use what the vet recommends... |

| Maybe they were unsure of where the part of the avacado used was really from and had to check everything and took it down until they could. At least they are seeming to do the right thing. Who knows if they will check or just took it down until things quieten down? Who even knows if their product is really ever from the "good" part - you've just their word for it.

| Great job! If they can pull it from their formula, why don't they just leave it out permanently? Is it really pectin that is a problem? I ask because many people feed their dogs apples, which have pectin.

I'm not saying this to encourage use of commercial products containing avocado oil, or to encourage people to feed their Yorkies avocado flesh, I'm just trying to allay fears and dispel urban legends. Check out the links and/or ask your vet just to be sure. | |

| Oh, thanks. Not a biggie for me - I don't use these kinds of products but I like they took it down to apparently check. Right now I'll save my eyes for YT reading and reading about MVD and shunts, etc.

Thx for posting tho I have only used this twice, but it's only for hiking in heavily wooded areas, for a bit of added protection... I'm not too worried, since I'm not using it every day anyway and when I do, I simply mist over his body quickly. I only use the chemicals (advantix) on his back a few times a year as well. If we're not seeing ticks or fleas, I don't see a need. There's a dog food based off avocados (AvoDerm) so it can't be THAT bad, especially since they're not eating or ingesting it. Thank you for the info
