Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Not wishing to hijack this thread: This was my thread from mid April: Question about Julie's Upcoming Spay It sounds like the consensus on this thread is to have the spay done before first heat around six months. My question is what about growth plates (having them x-rayed) and having the baby teeth pulled if six months is the key time for spay? She'll be six months old May 18th. Starlette

| ![]() Hi, I recommend waiting on Yorkies (and small breed dogs) until 8 months of age because of the teeth issue. I had Mandie spayed at 6 months (as I've always had my dogs spayed before first heat). However, I had to turn around and put her back under anesthesia to get her retained baby teeth pulled. If I had waited until 8 months, it could've all been done at once. With your situation of bringing in a male, I don't think I'd be too concerned if he is only 10 weeks old. However, I'd keep an eye on them. I wouldn't do a blanket statement as to what age they are when they become sexually mature. Has his testicles dropped? If/when they do...if she is not spayed..I would keep them separated.
