I was fortunate to have a Jack Russell female for 17 years. She was a barker, she was a great little guard dog. She was a true "go to ground" dog, she would dig out moles in the yard. She did all the normal things that a terrier is born to do. She was a true terrier. That said she was 7 years old when my grandchildren came along. She loved them, they could do anything to her. She loved other dogs, she loved cats, she even loved my bird. She and my Bichon would stand up on their back legs and slap each other with their front legs. They found that to be great fun. So do not believe all the horror stories you hear about Jack Russell Terriers. She was 16 years old when Keno came along and she even liked him and his Yorkie puppy ways.

Oh, wow. The Yorkie is a high energy dog but the Jack Russell is a bundle of dynamite. You are going to have your work cut out for you. Some people are not aware of the terrier personality when they get one. I knew terriers were high energy but I was not aware of Yorkie traits in particular. I met my baby by chance and just fell in love with her. I guess I just assumed that Yorkies had not retained their historical traits. Boy was I wrong! If I were you I would read up on both breeds. Their history and temperament is really important to get an understanding of. That way you will be prepared for the training challenges you will meet. These are not ordinary dogs. They were bred for a specific purpose and most retain the traits they were bred for. Be prepared.

Hi and Welcome to YT. I had to laugh when I read your post. We have a chichauhua/russel mix who is 9 months old. His name is Biscuit. He's the funniest dog I ever had. I've never seen a dog jump as high as he can. We are going to have him neutered next month. Right now he's got the hots for our female basset hound. Thank goodness she's spayed can you imagine that combination? Last edited by lexi43; 04-28-2013 at 07:11 AM.
