YT 1000 Club Member | Banning Gas Chambers As many here, I am a participant on Dogster, and got this EMail "message from them today... AnimalsVote.org I'm a little confused by this, is Gassing any worse than any other method or am I not being very sensitive about this issue. Understand, I wish we didn't have to do this at all but.. Am I right in thinking that there must be some method like that which will control the stray/unwanted population ?

| Gassing isnt a humaine form of euthanasia. It is slow and torture as their lungs and body are slowly filled up with gas and they gasp to breath and slowly they are overtaken by it. I didnt even know their were shelters that still gassed. I think giv ing them a shot that makes them quicky pass is the humaine way to go

| To be honest, I didn't know gassing was being done anywhere. The shot where they go to sleep and then pass is gotta be the best route, imo. Not sure why anyone would do gassing with the shots available..

| possibly to do more than one at a time, but I am just guessing, perhaps someone that has worked in shelters will weigh in. The whole thing is just so sad to think about, but if a dog is very sick I see no reason to keep them suffering and the shot is the humane way to go, it is very peaceful and quick.

| Gassing is cheaper than giving individual shots, but it is far from humane... It is very stressful for the animals and is not a quick procedure. If you have the guts, watch the videos on YouTube. It's horrible

| Being gassed is not a pleasant way to die. Many shelters use decompression chambers. That is equally as cruel. Cities, towns, and counties across the country are using the cheapest methods possible to get rid of the their unwanted pets. It is sad to say the least. It used to be many areas had humane groups that worked hard to raise money to help the stay population. Now it seems people are too busy to put their time and effort into such things. Just like with so many things if you don't see it you can pretend it isn't there. |

| WOW. This method needs to be illegal! It's completely inhumane! I can't even imagine death by decompression chamber. It sounds like some kind of medieval torture device.

| The shelter I know of that uses the decompression chamber claims it is "humane." It takes the air out of their lungs "quickly" and they of course die. Hard to believe that people who call themselves a humane society could do this kind of thing. |
