Is my Yorkie purebred? He's a 2 month old Male, thanks in advance! 4 Attachment(s) Hello everyone I am new to the Yorkie world and am interested in learning about my new puppy I just purchased. He is Jax, 2 month old Male Yorkie and very loveable. I just got him a few days ago and wanted to get your opinions. The breeders states he was purebred, I just want to make sure he was right. Thanks in advance everyone! |
He's adorable, but doesn't look 100% yorkie to me. His coat is quite curly and his snout is very long for a yorkie that young. Looks like maybe some poodle in him. |
Thanks for your reply much appreciated and yours is very beautiful! |
Thank you! You will get other opinions, I'm sure. It's always hard to guess. BTW, welcome to YT! This is a great place to learn all things yorkie! :) |
Welcome to YT :) He doesn't look like a pure yorkie to me. Did you get AKC papers with him? Such a sweet face! Love the name Jax :) |
Well, he is a cutie patootie. He definitely has a lot of yorkie in him - that's for sure. The first thing I noticed was the length of his nose, though. I think he's probably mixed with something. But who cares right? He looks like he is just a love bug!! Have you taken him to the vet yet? You should do that as soon as you can with him being so young. Perhaps get the vet's opinion also. How much does Jax weigh? A small/toy breed dog is still really vulnerable at only 8 weeks old, so study up on the signs of hypoglycemia and keep some nutrical on hand ok? Also, if he isn't done with all of his shots, be sure to keep him away from other dogs right now. Welcome to the forum! Very nice to meet you and Jax!! :) |
Haha I will be on here a lot. This website is great, I saw his parents they both were pure Yorkie, he wasn't the smallest or richest colored out of the litter, it he was the only one that got along with my 5onth old toby (Shih tzu). Will the vet know for sure? I am taking Jax for his next set of shots next week.. |
The vet probably won't be able to tell you for sure, but can give you an educated guess. The only way to know for sure is to do one of those DNA kit tests. |
Vet visit is next week. His nsoe caught my attention as well, he weighs no more than 2 pounds. His parents weighed about 8 pounds from what the breeder told me. I don't have the akc papers, didn'tthink it was necessary since I wasn't going to breed. I will keep him inside until all shots are given, thank you for advice I appreciate every bit of it. |
I'm no expert, but but I think you've got yourself the most adorable little Yorkie-poo ever! Welcome Danny and Jax! |
I would have to say no not 100% Yorkie. I would agree that possibly he is a Poodle mix. Totally cute, love the name. Enjoy your new addition to the family! |
Welcome & congrats on your new baby! He's very cute but looks like a yorkie-poo to me. Definitely not purebred at all.. If you think that you've seen his parents, you were prolly lied too. I would have my vet do a DNA test, and if you arent ok with the results contact the breeder. Maybe you can get your money back.. That's a risk many of us take not really knowing the breeder. But regardless, he's very cute and I'm sure will be a great pet! :) |
Aww, he is adorable!! He looks like a real sweetheart!! I would say Yorkiepoo as well. My yorkiepoos looked just like him at that age. It will be very interesting to see how his coat turns out. |
Thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge and advice with me. You all have been very great in such a small time frame. Tomorrow I will contact the breeder and verify with them again hopefully everything goes alright.. I will be back online to give you all new updates thanks again you've all been so very helpful and polite! |
Awww, he's a little sweetiepie!!! What a soulful, sweet little face! I, like the others, don't think he is purebred but he sure looks to be part Yorkie from his coloring and other aspects. His muzzle is a bit long, his ear leather quite thick, ears lowset and floppy, his head not quite as tall as a Yorkie pup's would be and his coat sparser on his head not nearly as teddybear fluffy overall as most 2 mos. old Yorkie pups I've seen. But he's got several other things that do give a Yorkie look. I'll tell you, that little boy has one beautiful little face and expression. Is he calm? He looks so calm and composed in those pictures. I'll bet he's going to make one sweet companion and pet if he's half as sweet and loveable as he looks. Welcome to YorkieTalk and good luck with the puppy stage! It's going to be trying at times and your dog is awfully, awfully young to leave its mother so be prepared to be kind of a nursemaid as he mourns missing and being parted to early from her. He'll likely moan and carry on at bedtime if he can't be quite near you as he's a canine and canines are pack animals and sleep together in family heaps, either piled on or very near one another for warmth and safety. He doesn't look like a tiny dog but a young pup can become hypoglycemic so look up the symptoms of hypoglycemia and be prepared to coat his gums with Nutrical, local honey or Karo Syrup should he get lethargic or wobbly, shaky, disoriented, etc., as you head for the vet. Here is a good link to read from our YT Library, the Puppy Care and Puppy Info Library, and it is a thread all about care of the Yorkshire Terrier puppy. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...w-parents.html Puppy Care and Puppy Info Library - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community Best of luck and keep the pictures and posts about him coming. |
