I know it is all nature. I guess I kind of cheer for the antelope or gazelle or whatever it is when the lions are after them on animal planet. It's a tendency to route for the under dog.

With that said, I do adore watching those huge birds soar. They are gorgeous (as long as they are not after my baby). And, hey, I don't cheer for the squirrels so they can have all of those!

LOL Well if you cheer for the antelope and the gazelle how come you aren’t cheering for the little cute baby squirrel- all he wants in life is to eat some peanuts!!

And every pecan on my two pecan trees and to dig tiny little holes in my yard every 2 inches........

Well maybe if you put a bowl of “his” own pecans he wouldn't have to take them from your tree! LOL

Also it would be nice if he had a little wood house to live in!

Very likely a pair. Right now, they are probably brooding young, so the female is on the nest most of the time. Dad will do almost all the hunting to provide for the family.

As for where they nest, can be almost anywhere, trees, building ledges, power poles, whatever is safest from nest predators. The fact you're seeing this bird regularly indicates it has a territory there which includes possible nesting.

Oh my gosh. I can hear it now - my husband asking me what I'm doing as he walks by watching me build a little wood house for the squirrels..putting out a bowl of mixed nuts and perrier...

Yes, they do mate for life. If one dies, they'll find a new monogamous mate for the duration.

I know both parents in hawkcam nest right now. Kinda unusual, but sweet! The male doesn't want to leave. Almost shielding Mom from the rain.

If anybody is interested in this cam, it's at Cornell U, in NY. This pair has nested there for years, and it's the second year they have two HD nestcams + a chat. The third baby just hatched this morning & they are adorable!!
