I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you don't need to check a bag. He counts as your "peprsonal item" (purse, laptop bag, etc) if he's in a small purse... at least that's how they've always run it for me. Also, once I had Tashi and my carryon.. and they didn't have room for my carryon, so they gate-checked my carryon free of charge.

I don't know about for American.. but I've flown Delta, Jet Blue, Virgin, and Southwest without a single trouble doing it like this. I usually just stick my wallet in Tashi's bag, and put my purse in my carryon.

Just flew 2 weeks ago. Had 2 in one bag. It cost me only $15 less than my ticket. Why can't I pay the extra and use their car seat? They are better behaved than a lot of the other passengers, adults and kids.

Oh no! I hope I don't sound like a horrible mom! I love both my girls to the moon and back. I just know my little one and her limits. And being in a strange situation and constrained for a long period of time is way way over that limit.

I hardly ever flew Southwest, because the nearest place used to be out of Chicago. But Southwest just came to Flint, MI. Over 60 connections just added this April 2013

I too think it's quite the rip off. I mean, I understand charging *something* - but over a hundred!!?? Ridic. Considering we're not taking up any extra room, a $50 charge seems way more than fair.
