| Ohhhh, the ears! Help!! I got Bentley when he was 4 1/2 months and both ears were up. Around 7 months, the left ear went down, so I contributed it to teething. Well, he will be 1 this Thursday and his ear still flops. I have shaved the ear, taped it and have tried cottage cheese and yogurt for added calcium. The longest I have kept them taped was a week. I have been doing this off and on for about 2 months. When I remove the tape, his ear stays up for a day before it flops again. Does this mean it still has potential or that it probably will flop permanently? Right now as I'm typing, it is standing, but a few minutes ago it was flopping. I'm so confused. Is there anything else I can try? |

| I don't know the answer but wanted to bump this up to the top for you. Worse comes to worse - he will just be a cutie with a floppy ear

| It sounds like it is going to flop but you can keep trying for the sake of trying. There was a breeder on here that got her yorkies ears to stand by shaping and taping and he was 2 yrs old she thought he was hopeless but she gave it a try anyway and it worked

Do you have any idea why it was able to stand before and now it doesn't? Is shaping the same as shaving the hair off? | |

| I wouldn't give up. Most dogs still have some maturing to do well after the first birthday. Maybe try taping for longer lengths of time. Give him a break now and then but tape him up again. Don't give up on the calcium. Even his bones are still getting stronger right now. Maybe look for a good supplement to give him. |

| I see a lot of people talk about calcium supplementation, but no one talks about Vit C supplementation. Benefits of Vitamin C to Your Dog - Whole Dog Journal Article 4GSD - Ears Up What does teething have to do with the ears?? | Doberman Chat Forum: Talk About Doberman Pinschers Ears?! Ears I could go on, but they all say the same thing, throughout several breeds. Lots of breeders of prick ears dogs swear by Vit C as a way to help puppies ears stand. This is actually the only breed I have never seen it mentioned, though I grant I have not been looking for it.

Very interesting articles...thank you! I do see: "Please do not feed this breed of dog any supplemental vitamin C (ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbate, calcium ascorbate or ascorbal palmitate) because of the kidney and liver damage it can do (see article at this web site)." at http://www.wdcusick.com/YorkshireTerrier.html though...so I am wondering...I have actually never heard of Vitamin C damaging kidney or liver. Hmmmm...

| Sorry...wanted to add that since "Vitamin C" is often added to pet foods...like Royal Canine, is there a 'proper' Vitamin C for Yorkies, I wonder? Maybe it is just some Vitamin C sources that are helpful and some that are harmful. Very curious about this...

| Well, since I started this thread, Bentley decided he did not like the fact that I told everyone about his ears. So, he has decided to keep them up. Lol. They have both been up for two days and that is the longest that left ear has done that. Fingers are crossed. |

| So, are you saying you should have started the thread sooner...? I hope this is the last of the ear worries!
