Senior Yorkie Talker | Microchip I was told by the breeder that my 12 week old Yorkie was too small to microchip at the time. I have the needle for the vet but I was thinking of waiting until she was spayed to get it done. Maybe that will save her from the pain of that big needle and they can do it when she is sleeping or under. What do you guys think?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! I would ask the vet. I had Cali chipped when she was spayed. I got Pixie at 13 months and she was 3.5 lbs and my vet chipped her while awake and said she did fine.

| One of my dogs was spayed before 8 weeks old. Some vets like to do it while the dog is under anesthesia.

| I work at a shelter and have micropchipped many pups that age, under no anesthesia. They don't even flinch when I put the needle in (even though it is a big needle) because it is beveled and it only takes a second to get over with.

| Darla got hers the morning of her flight. And she was awake. She doesn't seem bothered and she is 12 weeks. For sure have the vet do it to make sure it's properly placed and they have extra hands to keep your baby still. |

| I got Nilla microchipped at the veterinarian's when I first got her and had her checked out (examined). They just said it would be uncomfortable for a second because it was a larger needle. I believe she was 12 weeks at the time.

| I had my baby chipped today. He is 20 weeks and is 2.6 lbs. He did fine. Where I live there is high incidences of yorkies being stolen, I wanted to chip him earlier but he was too little. I went with my vets recommendations. |
