New to Group Hello everyone! My name is Renee. I got my first Yorkie on January 26th - the breeder said she weighed 2.8lbs but I took her to the vet the very next day and they said she only weighed 2.2lbs. Her name is Molly - she is very smart and learns quick. She just graduated from puppy training class Friday night. I have asked the breeder on several occasions how much mom and dad weigh but she doesn't answer me. Since Molly will be 6 months on Thursday I am assuming she isn't going to get much bigger. I had her weighed Friday and she weighs 2.8lbs now but lost .1oz due to teething. She won't hardly eat the last 4-5 days. I am giving her some soft food the vet gave me Hills AD food. I hope she gains more weight and at least gets to 3 lbs but what are your thoughts? Also should I let her chew on a nylabone since she's already lost quite a few teeth and they say don't let them chew if they have adult teeth. Thanks!

You say hardly eating, how much are you feeding her. She should be eating at least 1/4 cup a day up to 1/2 cup. If she is not eating the 1/4 cup I would be a little worried. This amount of food should include treats used for training. My pups don't like any of the hills food. I would try giving her some boiled chicken shredded mixed in with the food. She might be picky and not care for the taste. We have lots f members who had to try several different types of kibble until they found one theirs pups liked. I feed my 7 month, 3.9 lb pup blue buffalo with shredded chicken 3x a day. The shredded chicken enticed him to eat his food better. He now gets 2 tablespoons of bb freedom puppy plus 1 tsp chicken breakfast and dinner and free feeds another 2 tbs in between. He gets a about another 3 tablespoons worth of treats that I use for his training. All together it comes to about 1/2 cup of food.

She came home on Royal Canine and loved it. She only recently wouldn't hardly eat due to her teething. I have put warm water to soak the kibble in and she nibbles on it but her teeth are hurting. I gave her some shredded chicken night before last and she gobbled that up. The vet said to try her moist food the Hills AD and she gobbled that right up too. I think it is her teeth bothering her. She was eating 1/2 cup of her dry food a day with some treats in between for training and pottying. I soaked a wash cloth and froze it and she loves that and ice cubes. Poor baby - I hope she gets done teething soon. She lost 3 of her back teeth last week alone and I noticed she had a double row of front teeth but now only the new ones are there. So many teeth in a short period of time. I am beginning to wonder about the breeder as she isn't very forth coming on the parents information. I have asked for photos and weights multiple times to no avail. My baby is registered as I sent the form off myself. I asked a lot of questions when we picked her up as her hair was wiry looking and not much of it. I believe she kept her clipped as her hair is finally looking silkier than it did. I will post a few more pics when I get home from work. Thanks for your help!

Hello and welcome to YT. I think I would be a little concerned about her hardly gaining any weight since you got her. Has she had any digestive issues? She looks adorable in her graduation gown.

YT 2000 Club Member | Hello and Welcome to YT! Molly looks so sweet in her graduation gown! If you are concerned about her weight, I would get a full evaluation from your vet....maybe a full blood panel to see if she has any underlying issues. She does look frail....

Molly is so cute in her graduation gown and cap. I agree with what all the above have said about the eating situation. It is hard when they are teething but hopefully it won't last to long for her.

Molly has had no digestive issues and up to last week and teething was eating great. She has very high energy and runs around a lot. I gave her some cottage cheese in her softened kibble tonight. She ate pretty good with that addition. I will ask my vet to run blood work. Here is another pic of her the close up is recent and the other one is not long after she came home.
