Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Hi Renee I am new too. Your Yorkie sounds small! My girl is 12 weeks and was weighed at 11 weeks at 1.9 lbs her adult weight should be between 4 or 5 lbs. her mom and dad were 5 lbs but my Banana was the smallest of the litter. I also have two big border collies that weigh over 50 lbs and I didn't want a tea cup size Yorkie for fear she wouldn't be able to hold her own! My girl Banana loves loves loves veal sticks. All organic and they don't splinter they have no artificial color flavor and are grain free. Even know yorkies are small they are still carnivore dogs and like their meat. Is your Yorkie a pure breed?

| ![]() Hi TropicalBanana, She is a pure bred and I have her registered. I didn't want a teacup (tiny baby) eaither but the breeder insists that she will be between 4-5 lbs. I'm in serious doubt of that. I have sent her several emails and she finally replied last night saying the dad is 3lbs and mom is between 4-5lbs. I got her to eat her moist food that the vet gave us the Hills AD and again I mixed some cottage cheese with it and she gobbled it up. She has lost 3 of her back teeth in a week and I think that is what is keeping her from eating her kibble. I fear that she won't want to go back to that once she isn't teething. I amgoing to give her some boiled chicken tonight and try to get her to gaining some weight. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Your such a good mom feeding her yummy stuff like cottage cheese and chicken. You will need to slowly intergrate her kibble back into her diet when she is better but for now spoil your baby and put the weight on. Sounds like the little one might end up being 3.5 lbs fully grown. That's ok just as long as she is healthy. I will take note of what you are doing as my Banana is 12 weeks and hasn't lost her teeth yet. She is teething though and loves to chew on veal sticks and rawhides if you can imagine that. She eats about 3 tbsp of kibble 3 times a day and a treat every now and then but I try to stick to kibble because she is so young and gets the runs easily. I have NUTRICAL and only gave it to her once after she got her last shot and got a fever and didn't eat. I hope your little one gets better soon!!! Keep us updated on her progress. I will keep reading.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Awww...she is so sweet. She looks like she has a tiny frame. I love her perky lil tail! How tall is she? (You measure from the top of the shoulder to the floor.) She might just be petite....

| ![]() Since she has not been gaining weight it is important to try to get her to eat right now while she is getting her new teeth in. If she ate the dry food when you got her she will again after she is over the worst part of this. You will just need to wean her off the soft food slowly until she is eating all dry food again. Really consider having blood work done to check her liver functions. You can't be too careful with these little ones. |

| ![]() Thanks Gracielove! I will make an appointment with the vet for bloodwork and I'll continue giving her the moist food with some kibble mixed in until her teething has let up or finishes. I am really trying to get her to gain some weight. I will measure her height as I don't know how tall or long she is. She has a lot of energy for sure. I know that she gobbled up her wet food this morning and then had some cottage cheese too. She hasn't had any hypoglicemia problems at all since I brought her home. My vet is pushing to spay her but I am going to wait until I know her growth plates are closed and she weighs more. If she needs teeth pulled they can do it then. Thanks everyone for all the information. |

| ![]() Hi everyone! I am new here and considering getting a yorkie or a havanese. I live in nyc in a condo and want a small dog and would like it if my dog is not a yapper. I want a lapdog on the mellower side. I want to train it on a pee pad as well as go on daily walks for exercise. I have met yorkies that are super loving and quiet and some the opposite. The havanese seem the same as well. I posted on the havanese site and they all said to go with the havanese so I thought I would ask the same here. Can anyone share your thoughts? Oops, I should probably start a new thread. Last edited by euni; 04-16-2013 at 04:20 PM. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Whatever you decide to get just remember you need to train the dog first to pee on a pad to not be yappy to have good manners. It takes hard work, patients, love, time, commitment, 16 years of care, modifying your life style, your vacations even daily living to care for a precious dog for its whole life. Don't except too much from it until you have trained it for years and even at that a dog isn't fully mature for 5 yrs to understand the does and don't of what their mom and dad expect and some dogs may never. Good luck I know you can do it. We are all hear for you if you have questions. Oh and about the breed. Get what you can handle Yorkie require daily grooming and weekly bathing but they are sooooo worth it when you look at that little angel and snuggle up together on the coach to watch tv.

| ![]() Morning everyone! I got Molly a bully stick last night and she chewed on it forever and drug it around whenever she thought I was going to take it away. Still wouldn't eat her wet kibble but gobbled up the soft canned food. I went ahead and got her the BB grain free puppy canned food for a few more days. I did crush up some of her kibble and offered it to her this morning without putting it in the wet food. She did eat some of it - that leads me to believe it's just her teeth and she can't chew the kibble small enough so she won't eat it. Thanks everyone! I forgot to measure her, but will do that this evening. |
