They feed, medicate, groom daily with proper topknots, wash and dry pee pads, take in the mail, etc. I am kind of an easy client - while I like a lot done for the dogs inside, I don't have them do walks or bother with any outside. I leave paper plates for food so there's no dishes. I've had petsitters for 10 years. My latest petsitter is a vet tech who owns a yorkie. He does a great job and since he often petsits for show breeders with large kennels or clients with horses or chickens, my house is relaxing. No stalls to clean out or kennels to disinfect. I figure if he can feed 30 spaniels and wash down outdoor kennels then he can manage the occasional squabble over a toy. I have a backup sitter who works for my groomer and although she doesn't have a small breed dog herself, she has a high maintenance crazy pit bull so again mine are like little angels. I can't burden friends or family but I have a close friend who will come by and check on things and I have good neighbors. So for me this is a great option, and better than changing their environments or boarding. Last time I left them with my mother I got an email saying "Barney and daisy knocked over the garbage can and ate raw chicken and coffee grinds" -- they were fine but they obviously took advantage of her

| Yorkie Nanny ? We have several ways we work things. If it is a short time away from the house family members stop by let them out, feed and secure for night. If longer than one evening/night we have an in home sitter. Usually this is an adult grandchild staying in our house with Yorkies over night. A trusted neighbor can let them out if needed during the day. If we go away for a week end. I also have a dear friend that breeds Yorkies, I co-own two of hers. She will keep Gracie, and Julie they get along with her girls fine. Ginny and Abba can stay with a granddaughter for a few days , they get along with her Yorkie boy. And Ruby Boy can stay with my son and his wife, he enjoys a few days of being the only Yorkie. If we take a real vacation, Then it is a real Yorkie Nanny who moves in and lives with the Yorkies until we get back. I pay around $50 a day, plus a gift and a tip.

| Thank you all for your insiteful posts... I think I'm on the right track. "Miss Mary" charges $50 per day, which I find really reasonable. I have four pets to look after, and I was careful to say they are only partially trained and there would be messes to deal with. She was ok with that. Maxie will need meds am and pm... she was ok with that. I love my little guys so much. If I couldn't find responsible care for them, I just wouldn't go. I'm encouraged by the number of postings that show they have found nannys and are happy with the arrangement. Thanks everyone! |
