Do you have a Yorkie nanny? I just found one! A lovely 65 year old lady who has been sitting for the elderly and cleaning homes. Some of her clients began asking her to sit for their pets in their homes while they were away. She stays the night, and until about 9:30 or 10:00 the next day. Then goes about her business and comes back late afternoon and stays the evening and all night. I have two Yorkies and two cats. To board them individually would cost me $35 x 4! She charges just $50 per day! And even if I could afford to board them, my tiniest Yorkie, Max, has a collapsed trachea and could not be left in a boarding situation. Have any of you found Yorkie Nanny's?... and how has it worked out? This almost seems too good to be true... |
Yes! Her name is Mum :D She follows all my rules and even allows ZoE to sleep in her bed (my parents never allowed dogs in the bedroom while I was growing up) :p It's great that you found such a wonderful lady to care for your pets while you're gone. It's such a stress being gone from home & the peace of mind knowing that your furbaby(ies) are being well cared for is truly priceless! |
I'm glad that you found someone you can trust to watch your babies. The only person I trust is my mom. They sleep in her bed and get to hang out with her yorkie :) |
Yup...my housecleaners daughter. She is 18 years old and super responsible. She cleans my house with her mother, or without her mother if her mother if she is ill or busy. She also watches my kids and dogs if my husband and I want to go out for a few hours. She also housesits/dog sits when we are out of town or just going to be go for more than 4-5 hours. |

But my dad goes above and beyond...he will often sleep out on the roll out couch in the living room with him (because that's where Jax is more comfortable lol) and he makes sure he gets a good dinner. They have 2 dogs there already, and a fenced in yard, etc, and again, Jax has grown up there so he's very comfortable. |
How wonderful!! I need to find a dog Nannie!! :-) |
I love my pet sitter/ baby sitter, she does a wonderful job with all my animals and my daughters love her too. So no matter who I am leaving fur or skin, she take wonderful care of them. |
So many of you mention having family stay with your babies. I so wish that was the case for me. But my company has transfered me several times, and although I do make friends in each town, they're not the type of friends I would ask to stay at my house and clean up after my almost-potty-trained pups. It has taken me a while to find this lady, and I will post on how it works out after the event. I love these little guys so much... and Marley, my bigger Yorkie is tough and has proven he can handle traveling. But my baby Maxie is so delicate bacause of his 75% collapsed trachea, I haven't been able to take him or leave him for any length of time at home since his diagnosis. Thanks to all for their comments! |
I need to find one. I am going on vacation with my DD next month. My sister and nephew who use to be m pet sitters moved to Tennessee last September. My sister is going to come back and watch them but her husband is battling cancer so there is always the possibility that she won't be able to come. How do you go about hiring a pet sitter? I was thinking of getting a couple of names from the shelter I volunteer at and my vet and maybe have them come over? Do pet sitters come over for a meeting? I even thought of going away for a night and trying them out. I would love to find a great Yorkie Nanny. |
I have one, only I take Lola to her house which is a set up better then mine, she has a double fenced in backyard that she has yorkie proofed. I have to take Lola out via leash at my house. She has three yorkies for Lola to play with, here she is an only child, she gets cooked chicken pieces with her evening meal, here she gets scraps once and a while. She gets free access to their bed, here I have to put her up and down. I pay $18.00 which includes a bath on Saturday. We call it puppy camp and Lola has a great time there. |

I think its great you found some one you trust to watch your babies. I don't fully don't trust anyone lol but for a few hours my Grandpa, Grandma or parents are ok they all spoil her I just worry because me and her are so attached. I wont leave her for the night because of my anxiety I would have panic attacks and she keeps me calm plus she would never eat with out me. If I go somewhere she goes but its probably easier for me because I just have one although she is a bigger yorkie. |
I've used petsitters for 10 years now. They come to my home for day visits and sleep over with the dogs. I look for someone who is insured and bonded and who loves dogs. I currently have a vet tech and a dog groomer who have watched the dogs, and both do a fantastic job. |
If someone doesn't mind, please put some real numbers to this... How much do you pay for their services... Per Day, Per Dog...how do you work that ? |
