				   | Everything is quite now because Hannah and I are at work. She is in her playpen sleeping quietly. BUT..when we get home and I place her in her kennel all ____ breaks loose. She will start barking non-stop and of course I can't take it anymore so I let all of my other dogs outside and then let Hannah out of her kennel for a while. I'll put her up and then have to repeat again. It's getting hard for me to get things done when at home because it's all about her. Am I spoiling her too much to bend at her every whimper?

				   | I just had this same conversation with my sister last night, lol. I never knew just how much a new puppy would actually steal my heart. Oakley certainly has from day one and is certainly spoiled too! I also give into his every whine, etc. to easily. I've had him since January 19th (he was 8 weeks old) and I cannot imagine life without him! On Easter Sunday we all went to my oldest son's house and Oakley came along for the day. My sister said Oakley spent more time in my arms than on the ground, lol. My sister said I should just invest in a little purse because I never put him down. He spends more time with my DH, son (younger one) and daughter than me yet when I get home from work he wants only me and yes, I love it, hehe. I barely have enough time to walk through the house to put my purse down and he's already barking for me to pick him up. When it's "calgon take me away time" Oakley is just outside the door barking his little head off. I swear, if he could, he would squeeze his little body under the door. I'm pretty new to this site and can bet you there at alot of us spoilers around. |

				   | Yep, I imagine there are a lot here. I think I'm one! LOL Princess Sophie doesn't want to be picked up and carried all the time. When she's not napping in my arms, during the day, she's trying to get our mini-schnauzer to play. I love to watch but I wouldn't mind a bit more lap time here. HAHA!!

				   | I hate to hear her bark and wine...it breaks my heart!! I'm with her all day and she fine. It's just when i get home and she sees the other dogs. She wants to play with them (not me) but she's just too little right now. I have to supervise them.

![]() But in my head I said: " If you have to ask than the answer it Yes ! " ![]() The worse thing you can do when trying to teach a pup to be independent is to take them out of their cage or x-pen when they are whining and crying. They must learn to sooth themselves and you must learn to deal with it the best you can and to ignore them when they in that state of mind. You are not only adding to their temper tantrum you are teaching them that if they whine long enough that they will get their way. (Just like a child) The behavior is learned by how you react to them when they are doing it. You never reward them when they are in a frantic state of mind but only when they are calm. By you giving into the whining he now knows that it works. He'll continue to do it until you make the choice to ignore it. We all know how hard it is to ignore our babies when they are crying but as long as they are fed, warm, safe and sound they will be fine. Its not easy I know, I've been there lots of times but if you want a well balanced pup it worth it. Ok , Im done going all Cesar on you all now !!

				   | Dawn27, That is what I needed to know. I do feel bad when I ignore her but trust me I love her from near to far and beyond. It's just that I have other animals to love and care for not to mention the everyday cooking, cleaning...She gets her play time and mommy time. I just don't want to leave her in her kennel if it is stressing her out too badly. With my other breeds I would let them cry until they finally figured it out and calmed down but I'm finding that Yorkies are not like any other breeds and she keeps me on pins and needles. Thank you soo much for taking the time to respond to me as I was seriously seeking advise on this subject and yesterday I just didn't have the time to type everything I wanted to express.

				   | If at anytime I am sitting down, she is in my lap. The kids also spoil her rotten with lots of kisses and playing.

				   | I think it's important to set boundaries for puppies. I have two seniors one cat 13 and my yorkie 12. I spoiled the heck out of them though because I set boundaries for them at the very beginning. They know what's allowed and what isn't so spoiling them is not an issue. Although I will admit the older my cat gets, the more cantankerous she gets . She's beginning to break all the rules. When my last cat did this, she her health was in decline and after 15 yrs she past away so I am keeping a close eye on Zoey. Now that they are both seniors about the only thing I don't give in on is their diet. They both have special diets and no matter how much they give me those sad looks, I will not give them anything else to eat. Everything else, they pretty much get away with. |
