Supporting that is not nearly as kind to a dog as just taking out a gun and killing it. Living like that year after year in loneliness, pain, fear and want, denied all the things dogs love about life, is grinding, slow torture to a dog. Paying money to or supporting that hell is as low down and shameful as it gets. ANYONE buying from some unresearched website or meeting some nice but un-researched breeder in a pleasant living room to look at a puppy could very easily be paying good money to keep poor dogs just like those pictured caged, sick and miserable for a lifetime. I'm sick to my stomach knowing what some buyers are supporting!

You ARE doing something Lynzy. You're investing your time to help educate and I for one, thank you all for your efforts. Every person who has read & shared on this thread has helped contribute to educating someone even if they don't realize it right this minute. One day, maybe even tonight or tomorrow, a big light bulb will go off in their head & they'll think to themselves "Gee, that's what those ladies on Yorkietalk were trying to show me."

Change happens slowly at times but given enough information, opinions and advice, sometimes even the most devout supporters of disreputable breeding practices that don't improve a breed can still change. Never despair of the ability of a smart cookie to eventually begin to think about all that's being said here and all over YorkieTalk about breeding teacups and toy mixed-breed dogs and start to question.

But I can see why confusion reigns in some minds about mixed breeds from some of the claims out there on the web. Just look at these health claims on mixed breed dogs:

Which is Right For You: Pure or Mixed Breed? : The Humane Society of the United States

I am so angry about these two links. Where the heck are our purebred registries in this?

Gawd, I can't tell you right now what I think. To let this falderfall rain down on the ears of the public. from..... respected organizations.

Such blatant fallacy in many, but not all statements.

I will close now, but no wonder show breeders, and pure bred dogs are held in such disdain:th umbdown

These organization, while reputable, need to try to convince the public to rescue dogs from shelters. It doesn't make it ethical, but perhaps it's done out of desperation. Still, it made me angry also reading such fallacies.

Sickening isn't it? I was shocked beyond belief. Where is their proof? Some Time Mag. article on one site!

Here's an interesting article I ran onto trying to find the George Padgett, DVM, study he spoke about in Dog World, where he apparently stated his studies did not show mixed-breed or cross-breed dogs were superior gentically at all. See the last page of this article.

I will be calling in the morning to both of those agencies requesting they investigate the claims made in those articles. I know that one voice won't make much difference but I certainly will try!

Thanks Jeanie, for bringing this to our attention.
It really is no wonder so many people have misconceptions like what we see here when they read articles from RESPECTED organizations that promote inaccurate information.

Here's some more info about the progress in genetic improvements of purebreds that Padgett, among others, apparently advanced by drawing attention to the problems.

Tribute to Prof George Padgett DVM - DogForum.net | Dog Forums and Community

No doubt many took his 1998 offering on purebred dog health problems and ran with it as a reason for advocating for mixes; and then all kinds of good progress took place in purebred breeding and subsequently he published his study findings about mixed breeds being no healthier than purebreds, apparently in a Dog World article. I can't find the article or his study so far. Interesting reading.

The Humane Society of the United states (HSUS) doesn't operate or fund your local humane society shelter. They donate less then 1% to do so.
HumaneWatch | HSUS: Where the Animals Get 0.1%

Many animal advocate groups go against HSUS. They've been in the news here in Michigan for their stance on animal abusers.

So.....all those who still think teeny-tiny teacups are ok.....that it's ok to buy from someone who mixes different breeds......have you actually WATCHED this video? LOOK at the nails on that poor dog (2mins 30 sec in) And his/her coat!!!!!! Nobody on YT is picking on anyone or being rude.....we just cannot bear to see cruelty continue like this And not just towards yorkies....ALL dog breeds are sacred and precious, including the precious mixes in shelters

Money truly is the root of all evil But bless organisations like this who go all out to help and put evil greeders out of business

They are not meant to be carried in purses, but meant to be the proud, intelligent, self-sufficient dog they truly are. They were actually bred to be ratters!

The only time I have ever put my Yorkie in a "purse" was a travel bag, when we flew to Oregon and again to NYC.

The only time I ever picked up my Yorkie outside on his walks, when a Rottie came charging will full intent out of the bush. And that even I was forced into doing, as I had my large dog, charge back, and Razzle was all ready to get into the fray and defend his pack!

Yorkies are fierce beasties, and should be treated with outmost respect. Not relegated to some-ones purse!!!
THIS is one of the best things I've ever seen written about our beloved Yorkies My own boy Scamp, in the early 1980's, came to us at 6 months old and was THE most wonderful friendly dog with everyone, dogs and humans alike, UNLESS the other dog was a German Shepherd That breed would send him into a fury for some bizarre reason (bad experience possibly before he came to us?) and he would grab them by the throat if we didn't see the dog approaching and put Scamp on his lead first He lived to be 16 years old and never did accept GSD's He was one of the bigger Yorkies and had soft ears that never did prick up but oh, what a character

If you believe in the ripple effect, then you are making a huge difference. I have learned many things that make me cringe. I had no idea about puppymills and bybs. I was blissfully ignorant until I came to this website. I am positive that Charlie, my first yorkie was a product of a puppymill. Cringe.....I actually got him from a parking lot. Barney's breeder seems to be on the up and up. But I do not like that she doesn't have a spay/neuter contract. Because of the education provided by you and others, we got Anna from a shelter. She was caged as a breeding machine for 6 years by a byb. I tell all of my family and close friends about her past. It's easy to deny it when it seems like something that happens in big cities but when they know it happened to this sweet baby it becomes very personal. Every time a friend or family member has a pet that becomes ill or has a structural issue (knees, hips, etc), I ask them if the pet came from a reputable breeder and start a conversation about bybs and puppymills. By the way, this happens a lot more often than it should. Slowly, but surely, the word is getting out there about the importance of purchasing puppies from reputable breeders or rescuing from shelters. I plan on making a simple book about Anna to share with my kindergarten students. Nothing too graphic, but enough to plant a seed about caring for our animals. All of this because someone like you took the time to come to a public website to educate others. That was the effect you had on me. Now, imagine the effect you have on others.
