YorkieTalk Newbie! | Top knot?!? Yes or no for boys? There seems to be much debate over putting a top knot on boys. I know breed standards say yes. But does it make them look to much like a girl? And how do you make them leave the knot in because my little fella won't lol he pulls it out first chance he gets but if he doesn't have it in then his hair falls down in his eyes . Any thoughts ? |

| My Tucker will not leave one either! He will rub on the floor until it comes out! Maybe its a guy thing! My vet laughed at me when I went in with one in Tuckers hair! It was red, he said the least I could do was get one with a Harley on it! We do love our vet though! I guess it is just preference bow or no!

| I tried putting Joeys up and he didnt mind it much. My MILs dog went CRAZY though and rubbed on everything until it was out and his hair was back to normal.

YT 1000 Club Member | My Male Sneakers won't wear a little Bow in his top knot, rubs it off on the floor like others here have said. However, he likes (or doesn't mind) wearing a Bandanna, and I think that My Female Becca prefers him wear that as well. That's gotta be a girl thing

| My Mozzi is going to wear bows, even if it kills me! Seriously tho, didn't start immediately with him, which really, really helps, but he is doing fairly well. To start, the band should be very loose, but tight enough to stay. If it's put in correctly, they should barely feel it. Once they are very used to the band, try very lightweight bows and work up from there. It also helps to train them to lay their head on a folded towel or pillow. Mozzi already has a tan Susan Lanci bow. I'm also planning bows in camo, denim, dark colors and the ones w/tiny plastic things like basketballs, flags, and other "manly" things. Also, it helps to distract them immediately after putting the band/bow in, a walk, play session, etc. I also love the tiny claw clips, they are fast, easy and light weight. |

| I have always kept Huey in more of a silky cut instead of a Yorkie cut so we haven't worn a topknot until recently when I bought a grooming table and can now hold him still long enough to put one in. I am growing out his visor & I have found the tiny scrunchies from goodys hold very well. What removes it from his head is his daddy. Every time I put a top knot on him, dh says "your mama put you in a ponytail" and as soon as I turn my head it is out. I know his daddy is taking it out because the dog does not put the scrunchie on top of the kitchen countertop.

| Joel will keep his in but I get annoyed because everyone assumes he's a girl.....heck, they assume he's a girl without a topknot haha |

| Same here. I guess Joel & Huey are just too pretty to be boys! I think Joel's mohawk is very manly in your avatar.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I do not have a male but have always thought that if we added one to the family one day that we would not do a top knot. I think they are very cute but I guess I get to do the topknot with my KS so I figured on keeping a boy in a puppy cut. I guess it's just personal preference.

| Bogie has a topknot which I just use terry scrunchies to hold it up. He looks silly with short hair on his head. Kinda like a little old man. We call it his rocker ponytail

| Yoshi wears a top knot. He used to rub his head on the floor when he was a puppy. But he's used to it now. I even keep it in when he sleeps. When we're in public, I always use a black rubber band or a black scrunchie. He does have bows...black, camo, gold, navy...those types of colors. But everytime I bring him out with a bow, people always say, "What a cute little girl!" So I don't do bows as much as I used to. It's not that I really care...it's just that I'm sick of having to say, "Actually, he's a boy."

| I don't really see the big deal, and when my pups coat grows out I plan to do so. Especially since everyone already assumes he's a girl anyways. But I promise to stay away from pink, and get ones with little skulls, and are less gender defining. |

| I don't topknot Blazer very often- sometimes he pulls it out, sometimes he doesn't. DH HATES when I "put him in a ponytail!" I'm trying to grow out Blazer's visor, too (it seems to be taking FOREVER!) so all I can do with his topknot is try... =)
