| Help Benji is alot better now. The only problem I have with him is when I take him out with his lease and put him down on the ground he tries to take off and runs for it. If I didn't have the lease on him, he would be gone. He runs one way and then jerks and goes the other way and jerks my arm around and then does that in different directions. I don't know what to do about it.. I keep bringing him back to my side and telling him to heel and I have been doing this for a while now and still no go. He is starting to wear me out. I don't know what to do. |

| Do you give him a treat when he heels. My Buster is very treat motivated so he catches on much quicker if there is a food reward. Just make sure the treats are small as the calories add up quickly.

| I just wrote a reply..not sure where it went lol First, make sure you are using a harness to attach the leash to and not a collar, ok? Second, quickest resolution of this is shorten the leash. Longterm, keep working on the heel command and give plenty of treats and praise. He'll catch on.

| As someone already said make sure you keep the leash short. Give him just enough leash to keep him right by your side. Put him in the sit position and give him a teat when he does that. Take one step and as you give the heel command. If he starts racing around then put him back in the sit. It may take a lot of repetition but he will learn, eventually, that he is going no where until he walks politely by your side. They can be such little stinkers sometimes. It's hard not to laugh or just let them do what they want but I"m sure you would rather have a dog that walks as he should. He'll get it. Just keep the treats handy for when he even comes close to doing it right. That will help him to learn what you want him to do. |
