| Tape worms! Hi all- A few days ago I noticed 2 tapeworms in my dogs bed.... I recently moved a ways away from our Vet & I'm still researching a good one in my area. In the mean time, are there any over the counter medications I can purchase from Petsmart, Petco etc. That will kill the Tapeworm???

| Go get something from any vet - you don't have to be a patient. You also need to get something to kill the fleas - this is where tapeworms come from. One pill from the vet and the tapeworms will come out in the poop. If you don't find a way to get rid of the fleas, though, they will come back. I had an ongoing battle with a dog I had back 20 years ago. This was before all the good flea meds that we have now worked so well. I gave flea meds, dipped at the vet monthly, and STILL had to get her treated for tapeworms about 3 times a year. ugh

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | How can you be sure that they are tapeworms? A tapeworm usually looks like little pices of rice in the feces. The worm itself is very big, but little pieces break off. I agree with the others, it's time to see a vet and if it's tapeworm, you should probably treat for fleas as well.

| If you can, bring some of the worm segments to the vet for a diagnosis, then they wont have to go after a stool sample and that will make things easier on your pup.

| I foster and have had several dogs with tapeworm I hate them with a passion and am super grossed out by them. My last foster had them badly and we couldnt get in for a several days with any of the vets I see and I couldnt deal with living with worms for days. I tried one at petco unfortunately I cant remember the name but it was for tapeworms only and it worked great. It was one pill and they were gone in less than a day. I agree to try to find a vet first though.

| I guess I'm actually spoiled where I am and I forget others don't have it that way. My vet's office is always walk-in.
