Really odd coat ????

I have had 3 other Yorkies awhile back and I can't honestly remember them loosing their puppy coat. I though they just kept growing their hair? When does the puppy coat shed out is it at the same time the adult coat is coming in. I really don't remeber them having shorter hair then when I got them? I'm confused, I thought Cali's hair would just keep getting longer. Did you notice Tori shedding?

Both of her parents have nice coats, her father is kept in a puppy coat and her mom has a long pretty coat. The hair on her head and face is growing.

my mom puts brewers yeast in her dogs food to make her coat shiny and healthy.....
Lets llok on the brighter side:
She must have an easier coat to brush!
You dont really have to take her to the groomer since she has a short slow growing coat!
(i would prefer that last one with mine ... i just gave him a trim today, but he moved adn i cut off more than i meant too)

I remember with both Monkey and Maddie, that it seemed like their puppy hair would shed a little. when i would brush their hair I would get the fuzzy puppy hair in the brush and all the silky hair just kept getting shinier and shinier. I could be wrong, but thats what i thought was happening.

When you say she "lost her puppy coat", you don't mean it literally shed or fell out, you just mean it's now turned color and grown out, right?

My Wosie is thin-coated too. I think it's a throw back to one of the dogs mixed in the original Yorkies, and if I could find that old thread that talks about that, that would be great. Julz, I am almost thinking it was you that talked about the breeds that went into the creation of the Yorkie, and if it was, can you list those breeds again?

When Wosie can finally have a bath in a couple weeks, I will post some pictures. She and Tori look similar. She is still a cutie pie! They are what they are, but we love them just the same, don't we?

Here's the info that Julz once posted about the origins of the Yorkie. I am guessing that every now and then we get a throwback to one of these dogs. In particular she was talking about reds, but if you get a chance to see it, the Dandie Dinmont has short legs.

I agree with Julz, it would be interesting to go look at pictures of each of the breeds that make up the Yorkie and see what our dogs resemble the most.

Alot can interfere with a yorkie growing a long coat: terrier coat (which she is not), grass, carpet, food allergies, the wrong brush, brushing a coat when dry (you should always mist their hair with water before putting a brush to it), coats/sweaters/clothing, flea allergies, wrong shampoos, rolling around on their backs a lot or itching/scratching their coat (for this you need to find the cause), etc... I have listed the ones I remember.
Usually puppies coats do not fall out - it just grows and changes to the adult coat. You should really not notice much of difference in length during this time. I have raised yorkies since 1979. I hope I have helped.
