Here's the info that Julz once posted about the origins of the Yorkie. I am guessing that every now and then we get a throwback to one of these dogs. In particular she was talking about reds, but if you get a chance to see it, the Dandie Dinmont has short legs.

"Well, the Yorkie is believed to be a combo of these terriers; Clydesdale (now thought to be extinct,, the Skye, Leeds, Maltese, Black & Tan Manchester, and the Dandie Dinmont Terrier. The Dinmont comes in "Pepper" or "Mustard" color. I think it is interesting to look up each of these breeds individually and check out the different colors they come in. I agree with Julz, it would be interesting to go look at pictures of each of the breeds that make up the Yorkie and see what our dogs resemble the most.
