When its a lot of urine it will go down to the pad and to the subfloor and you need to use a lot of Nature's Miracle and even several applications before all of it is removed. Protein in urine is what causes the smell and the discoloration, and so you need an enzyme that "eats" the protein and this can take time and you can't hurry the time, by using dryers as they just kill the enzymes that are suppose to eat the protein. When I got my new carpet I bought a pad that is waterproof, you have to make sure they glue it not nail it down, but it eliminates the problem of urine soaking into subfloors.

I have another tip. If you have a rug shampooer, after doing the spot treatments.....Pour a good bit (1 cup) of natures miracle (or equivalent) into the solution you use for the rug cleaner...I also add it to my Shark steamer for my hardwood and ceramic floors. I think it definitely does help with urine odor. I dont actually use Natures Miracle, because my brother manufactures an enzymatic solution for Hospital use. I figure if it can sterilize hospital surgical equipment, it can work on a little dog pee, lol.

Hydrogen peroxide is a great cleaner for many body waste stains and is found in many urine cleaners, but I'm wondering why you feel the need to use the iron? You would want to test it in a closet or some inconspicuous spot first and be very careful with the iron on the carpet, high heat can also set stains in, so this seems like a risky method.

Yes. It's always a good idea to test at a inconspicuous spot first. I did that before I set off to do the rest of carpet. I think the iron is involved b/c basically, this is something like "steam cleaning" your carpet. Except you're steam cleaning a specific spot with concentration(?). Does that make sense?...

Actually steam cleaning is a misnomer, you really aren't using steam to clean, the cleaning part comes through the machines capability to suck up the dirty water. Hot water/steam can soften dirt or soil, but even then, you should pretreat certain stains, because hot water can set them in. Also, unless you get ever bit of urine protein out, the slightest bit will attract a dog to it. Look at washable pee pads, we wash them in the washer, some people even use bleach and vinegar, yet the dog is still attracted to the pee pad, because there is still a bit of urine protein in it. So you need something to remove the protein completely.

I was googling this subject to find out how the process works. Someone mentioned "heat transfer" where the heat helps to absorb(?) the stain onto the white towel.

I did use the NM (advanced formula) several times on that spot but could still see it with the black light. Not sure about the smell but the peroxide definitely took the stain away at the very least.

I'm just concerned about setting in the stain, if you don't get it all out, but if your happy with the results, I'm happy for you!

Luckily, I don't think the stain set in.. After using several different products (like nature's miracle advanced formula), I was still able to see the stain with the black light so this was more of a "last resort".

I can't say this worked 100% but I think it did work to a certain degree so yes, I'm happy with the result. Next step will be for me to scotchgard the carpet one of the weekends.

I have been using Genesis 950 Concentrate (purchased a gallon on Amazon) for my carpet and I have had very good results with it. I dilute it 7 parts water to 1 part cleaner. I spray the spot liberally, and often by the time I go back to dab it up, I can't even tell where the spot was so I have to be sure to mark it while I let it set there working. One problem I was having prior to this was that old spots that I cleaned with other products left residue that over time collects dirt and the spot never really goes away. I have gone over old spots with the Genesis with good luck removing even more of the original old spots. I do pre treat before running my carpet cleaner too. Just thought I'd mention it if you wanted more options to Nature's Miracle.
