For what its worth, I just recently read somewhere that Wal-Mart is going to start using more American made or Made in the USA vendors to help support America. Maybe this is one of their steps in moving toward more American made merchandise - I hope this is the case and the treats are not made in China or elsewhere.

I really hope that Walmart does start to sell more USA made products. That is where people shop, and whatever is there, with their buying power will be cheaper than the same product somewhere else.

HOWEVER, I have bought USA made products from Walmart before and they were pieces of crap! I wonder if they really were, or if they were just crap pieces from the beginning! Remember, Coach bags are made in China. A lot of people would say that Coach bags are a luxury item (I would agree with that), but a luxe item made in China? Yes it does happen, and it depends on how much the "brand" wants to pay the manufacturer. Don't forget, Apple products are also made in China. I type this on my Mac laptop, and bf next to me on his iPad.

I hope they do, after all, that is what BUILT Walmart. Sam Walton built around the idea that his store supported American companies. I read his book, and some of the lengths he went to, to assure that his stores carried quality American products made me proud of him.
The WORSE thing his company did was go public. As soon as Walmart went public, the quality of the goods went down, and the primary source of products left the US.

I have given up on buying treats for my dogs. I'll make them. Except for bully sticks. I don't see me making bully sticks any time soon, but everything else, I'm making at home.

China made products are a problem but many of the big pet food companies also use some very low grade ingredients.

The dogs who died from China made fillers a few years ago had eaten made in USA food. It was never mentioned on the label that the companies had used ingredients that came from China.

Pet food manufactures in the USA do not have to list all the details on their labels.

If the beginning of a bar code starts with 690, 691, or 692 it's from China. If it starts with numbers between 00-09 it's from the USA.

With all the food and pet products now coming from China, it is best to make sure you read label at the supermarket and especially when buying food products. Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located. The whole world is concerned about China-made "black-hearted goods".

Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China ? The world is also concerned about GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) foods; steroid fed animals (ex: 45 days old broiler chicken).

If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.
471 is Made in Taiwan .
If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 00-09 then it's made or sourced in USA.

This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA", so they don't show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode -

remember if the first 3 digits are:
890......MADE IN INDIA
690, 691, 692 ... then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 - 09 ... USA and CANADA
30 - 37 ... FRANCE
40 - 44 ... GERMANY
471 ........ Taiwan
49 .......... JAPAN
50 .......... UK Share it!"

ETA: I think this is for food products only. I just checked a bunch of bar codes on random bike parts and the numbers so not match up LOL.

A bar code’s prefix only allows you to determine where the GS1 member organization who issued it is located. In no way does this indicate where the contents of the packaging originated. The best way to see where a product originated is by looking at the packaging. Import laws in the U.S. require any product manufactured outside of the country to clearly state its origin. This means that even if the barcode rumor above were true, it would still be easier to just look for “Made in China” than to memorize a list of 3-digit country codes.

Do not rely on a picture of an American flag to reassure you that the product was made here, read read read, sometimes it was manufactured in China, and packaged here. Some companies also ship USA beef to China, where it is processed and then shipped back to this country. You want the whole thing made in the USA start to finish.
