New Yorkie mom but not new to forum in need of advice, please!!

Thank you, pee holder is not the problem. But I'm glad to report that around 12 midnight EST Piper peed on her pad in front f me after I took her from her crate. It only took like 5 minutes. I praised, gave a treat and 30 minutes o play time. Nw the latter may have been a mistake on my part. I don't want her thinking she will get play time In the wee hours of the night. I'm not going to celebrate just yet. I'll keep you all updated in a couple of days. Thanks again for the help.

LOL Guinness Stout!!
and Piper, Lilly is a mutt basically. She's half yorkie and half wire-haired terrier. Both parents are 10 pounds though I only ever saw momma dog. She looked just like Benji, and yes I'm dating myself since I watched all the double features of Benji in the theaters as a child LOL, but anyway Lilly is my mutt and I love her just the same. She acts very much like a yorkie and looks like a yorkie and I love yorkies so I wandered on to this forum. I don't see many wire-haired terrier enthusiast boards haha

She will be loved by us no matter the breed!!!!

Day 3 of training is going well. She now goes in front of me and that's a plus. It takes forever each time. But one problem down. Whoever thought of crate training is awesome. I guess she needed to have more of a den feeling then being in the open in her ex-pen.

Does anyone known approximately (all at different) when she may feel more comfortable in her expen vs the crate? I just feel so bad because the crate seems so small yet she seems to love it. She doesn't fuss when I tell her to lay down and have the crate ready to go.

Congrats on the progress and doing well! I wouldn't really worry so much about her feeling comfortable outside of the crate IF she actually feels comfy IN it. They are den animals so she will probably always like to have that little crate/hide-away.

I have seen some set ups in pics here that actually incorporate both the crate and xpen together. I love the idea and wish I had done that when Mandie was younger. Maybe some will post..I can't remember all of them, but I know Southernbelle04 was one of them. They had the crate...covered on 3 sides (like a den) and left open..then the xpen coming out from that. Like the front/open end of the crate was one of the walls of the xpen. Then in the xpen..have food/water, another bed, pads, plenty of play space and toys. It is sort of like the xpen is the living room and the crate is the bedroom

Maybe it's the scent of a particular pad, some are treated to attract them to it and others just have its own scent?

I know when I was given some potty pads that were not the usual ones my girls wouldn't want to use it

and "if" they did they would potty in the area around it but not on it and this was only if there was not a throw rug or even a piece of clothing on the floor

Thank you, that makes me feel better knowing she so comfy in than out. I plan on incorporating the crate and pen. That's a good idea, I'll google some images. For now, until a few more weeks I will keep them separate so that she doesn't revert back to her old ways.

I use I think it's called blue ribbon brand you get like 200 of them for about $24 from Walmart.com. Those are the ones I've used from the beginning. She is doing a lot better since I started the crate training and sticking to a schedule. She now pees and poos in front of me. We still have a ways to go cuz sometimes she will go within 5 minutes, sometimes 20. I'll wait until 30 but if she doesn't do anything then back into the crate she goes.

I still believe she may have been scared at the breeders

My Coco is very modest. We have three pads around the house, but her preference is to use the one that's in the bedroom in a corner next to a large dresser. It's very private and no one can see her when she goes. She will go outside when she's out there. Silly girl.
