New yorkie mom looking for opinions (sorry so long)

Hello all, I'm not new to the forum because I signed up in December. However, I brought Piper home 2 weeks ago when she was 11 weeks. We had to get her early because many of the other dogs came down with Coccidia.

She's already been to the vet twice for an initial checkup, heart worm, bordetella and parvovirus vaccines. She goes back this week for rabies and flea/tick. Last checkup she was 2.7 lbs. I'm please to say she is healthy and full of energy.

I've taught her come here (she chooses to listen to that when she feels like it), lay down, leave it, no kisses, calm and stand up. She does great with all but come here.

Now tell me how a little one so smart can't or won't get the potty command??? Now in her defense she does great with the pee pads, she took to them from the start. I will transition her to outside when the weather is better and she's had all her vaccines. I live in the country where rabbit, raccoons, deer... Etc invade my yard.

I have never scolded her when she has accidents, I've given her a firm no and took her to her pad. I've praised her like crazy when she gets it right. However, Piper refuses to pee on the pad in front me. This girl can hold it all day (we're talking 10 hours or more) and wait until everyone is sleep then she pees like 4 times and poops like 2 times on the pee pad over night. BUT in the day she either won't go at all, pees off the mat or like today while we were playing she goes and squats right in front of me and her pee pad was right there. I said no and took her to the pee pad where she hasn't gone since.

Her room is my bonus room above my garage so it's huge. She has in an expen and I've given her half the room with 2 pee pads (with holders) toys, beds, food and water dishes. She has a lot of room to play.

I've been reading and decided that maybe I should start over and crate. Waking up every 2 hours to put her on the pad. What scares me is that she may go in her crate considering she waits at night to do all her business.

I plan on talking to the vet at her appointment this Thursday but I would like to hear from you all cuz there is A LOT of wisdom on this forum.

I'll be watching this for the answers you get. I'm trying to think of something that I would do in this situation but you've covered everything. It can't be good that she holds it for so long. Hang in there!

I figured rather than be a creeper I would actually say something. My Lilly will be 11 weeks on Tuesday and she actually will go potty almost on command on the pads, but she does have her accidents. She's so smart I have to remind myself she's still a baby and those accidents are inevitable. Will be nice when she's had all her shots and can go for walks in the park and get out some of this puppy energy!!!!

I don't want to be a creeper, so I will say, i'm scratching my head at this one! My Jersey is 71/2 months old....know to go to the door to ask to go out...but every so often I find a pee spot....

Although I have two others, I know its her....sorry I'm no help I know....watching to see what others come up with.

I appreciate the responses and the views. Leave it to me to have an extra special dog. I'm wondering if there was an incident at the breeders no one told me about. For now, I've decided to crate her and take her out every 2 hours. I've set my phone to go off at 2,4,6,8 am. I'm prepared to clean up messes for the next few nights. This will hopefully "force" her to go in front of me. I will continue to praise like crazy and give extra treats.

It's tiring work being the mom of a pup. I think that's probably what I'd do though..start from square one/basics. Good luck!! Let us know how she does

And I was just sitting here thinking..lol. Lilly must be a porker. She weighed 5.1 on her last vet visit, just Saturday. She's like 3 pounds more than yours!!

That's not an easy job!

I'm going thru last part of chemo so I'm home from work for another few of weeks. I'll be able t nap during the day.

Wow, I'm hoping Piper gets 6lbs as an adult. You may have like a 10lb adult but I think tts wonderful.

Shy potty girl! I brought my Teddy home at 8 months and he was 100% outdoor trained, but I needed him to also know how to use pads. He was fine to pee on the pads, but he is a shy pooper and did not want to use the pad.

To convince him that it was okay to use the pad and to go in front of me, I closed off a small back hallway and lined it with pads. When I knew he had to go, I put him in the area and verbally urged him to go potty. This was one of the hardest things I ever had to do because he was desperate to go outside. Finally he couldn't hold it any longer and pooped. I gave him a big party worth of praise and he finally got the message -- it was okay to go in front of me, and that I would take care of it right away.

Keep using keywords and phrases and urge your girl to go, and keep up with the praise and maybe a treat reward.

Also, I have read here that pad holders can lead to many dogs peeing on the side of the holder or near the pad. Try taking the holders away and see if that helps.

Umm NO I got the extra special little girl

Lil Miss Stinky that rolls in her pee and I swear looks you right in the eye and smile

when she poops on your light tan carpet or white tile

I've been stalking oops, I mean following you for 2 months now. You bring insight with humor. Sorry your girl likes her pee, I hope she grows out of it.
