| Yorkie won't drink water Hi....new here, and wondering if anyone has ever come across this problem. Our Shelby will not drink water....from her bowls, or any other container. She did suck water from a wet washcloth once. We get water into her by adding it to her can food. She is fed 1 tablespoon of food 3 times a day so we can do the water thing. She is a puppymill rescue, and seems to fear water. She is scared to death of hoses for sure. We have had her 10 months now and I am still trying to find something that she will actually drink from. The vet says she is not dehydrated, so we must be doing something right for her. I worry about her not getting enough fluids. Our second rescue, Lil doesn't have this problem. really could use some help with this problem. Thank you. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Did you try a water bottle like they use in cages for guinea pigs and some shelters use them. Have you tried ice cubes? I can't think of anything else. Poor baby must have had a rough life. I am glad she is safe with you.

YT 2000 Club Member | I would try the water bottle that you hang on a crate. If she was from puppy mill this is probably how she got her water! We had foster dogs that had a crate with a water bottle. Our Teeka loved to go in it and drink from that bottle! I would give it a try!

| yes....bought one of those bottles and placed it in her kennel.....she sits there when I'm putting on makeup and combing my hair or making the bed. But she doesn't drink from it.....sniffed at it and when I showed her the water dripping out she retreated to back of kennel. Still trying different things. She had a broken lower jaw when they rescued her, and it was repaired by wiring it together and wrapped the wire around her canine teeth to hold it together.....it got infected, pulled the teeth loose and they had to remove the teeth and part of her gum.....she is missing about 29 teeth hence the reason for the moist food. Not sure she could handle ice... She is fine now and we love her wonky little jaw. Little things keep showing up as time goes by. She is just now beginning to 'play' a little with us. Waiting for her to learn to play......and be a happy dog. |

| Might try that.....she pulls back if I've added too much water to her food....when we first got her her jaw was broken and wired together.....she had a very hard time eating......then her jaw got infected from wire and had to have the wire, teeth and part of her gums removed. So the food was kind of a slurry for a few months....she will drink the liquid in the food...just not regular water. Thanks |

| Chicken broth without salt or sodium lol... I can't remember which one. The water bottle is a good idea as well as the ice. A lot of people so the water in can food when dogs have Urine problems.

| Thanks for this suggestion. I tried it a bit ago and at first she backed off...but then her nose started sniffing.....she actually drank a good amount....didn't let her have too much at first. Gave her some more a little later and she really went for it. Only added a very small amount to the water but it is working......thank you. Bet I'll need to take her out more now....lol |
