| Puppy smell Any suggestions how to keep my 16 wk old yorkie, Gizmo smelling fresh without giving him a bath too often and drying out his skin? (it's not his breath, which is good). He just gets to smelling like a smelly dog and coat seems to get really oily looking. |

| How often are you bathing? I bathe Huey weekly, sometimes 3 times in 2 weeks in the summer. Be sure and use a good shampoo, preferably a yorkie shampoo like yorkie splash or similar, and be sure and condition him well. The shampoo I use isn't a "yorkie" shampoo, but it is called fresh scent by therapet and it has a matching spray that can be used between shampoos to keep good smelling, but I never have to use it because he still smells good a week later. I am disappointed that I can no longer get the matching conditioner. I can't find it anywhere on line, but I use regular people conditioner and he stays silky and reasonably tangle free.

Ditto! I bathe my two weekly (sometimes less in the winter and usually more in the summer - depends on when they start stinkin'). I use Pantene condition on my pups and their fur is soft, silky and virtually tangle free. Good luck!

| Puppies do tend to get messy very quickly. The Yorkie Splash and Shine products are all natural and don't dry the skin. There are several other all natural product lines out there that do not contain sulfates as well. Regular pet products contain the sulfates that are a major factor in causing dry skin and coat. Some will point out that they have one or two natural ingredients in them but they still have sulfates so read the label carefully. I also use a waterless spray shampoo in between baths for when she may get her feet or belly dirty after being outside. That may help you with a puppy as well. Also make sure you are feeding a very good quality food. Some foods use really low grade ingredients that can cause issues with the coat and skin. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey was like this and I bathed him weekly, but in two days he looked so greasy. The good news is that dogs like this often as an adult have silky hair which is so easy to care for. Also, just because he has greasy hair, don’t skip on the conditioner for it conditions the skin as well as the hair, it’s easier to prevent skin problems than cure them. Yorkie Splash and Shine is good and I also like like Biogroom, you can email the company and they will send you samples of several of the shampoos as well as their conditioner, it's all tear free too Bio-Groom - Exceptional Pet Care Products for Over 30 Years. Don't forget to add water to it before you use it, it's highly concentrated.

| I love Fresh 'N Clean spray cologne for dogs plus the dry shampoo idea sounds good.
