I try to live with the motto "there is a reason for everything" maybe I wouldn't of been the right placement for him . . .I just don't know . . .but I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't get back to me at all.

i am a strong believer in that also but remember how many apps and people they must see on a weekly basis. emails tend to get shuffled sometimes. which is why i say maybe try stopping by...to remind them about you!! i wish you luck and hope you hear something when the right baby comes in.

Some shelters give first dibs to rescues. You might want to ask your shelter if that is what is happening to you. Many breed rescues will take in half breed dogs if they have someone available. If the shelter is letting the Yokies go to a rescue you may want to contact the actual rescues organization as it is not likely you will get far with the shelter unless they make special arrangements with you.

When I was searching before I got Tibbe, one of the rescues I dealt with told me outright because I passed on a small Powder Puff Chinese Crested, I would drop in consideration. With that rescue, you took what they chose for you or else. But I don't know if that statement you listed implies that - it might. Why don't you go over and ask to make an appointment with their director and have a talk, see what their thinking is, make your case about pet you are hoping for.

I agree that you don't want to waste any time. It's true that the early bird catches the worm. Plus when they see your face, they can put your smile with that puppy and you have a better chance.:)

Each shelter is different. They may have only one or two rescues that they work with or none at all. I would certainly agree with others that say you should talk directly with the manager or director of the shelter to find out where you stand.

I was going to call the director today, but my daughter seems to think since I had submitted an email and left a voice message already, that I'd seem like a nut job . . .:eek::p So, I think I'm going to wait until Friday to contact her.

Agreed. Don't overplay your hand and timing is everything. When the time seems right, just drop by and schedule an appointment. Then at that meeting you can explain that part of rescuing a dog to a forever home is knowing which one you should choose for your home that will best blend with your family and activity level and why the first dog would not have worked out in your opinion. That's why I won't work with a rescue or any organization that wants to force "next one up" on anyone.

My DH is under the impression that the dog never existed and that is how they get people to put in applications for dogs . . .:eek: But, I just think he had his hopes up and that now he's disappointed. :(

I agree with your motto...it is one of mine too, :) but I, too, have sent email to a 'rescue' about an 'advertised' pup that was completely ignored...not to the same place, however. I found it completely annoying that the 'rescue' ONLY accepted email inquiries then NEVER responded. The time this happened to me was for a cutie pie solid white Yorkie/Maltie mix that I wanted as a companion for Brody.

I would have been able to see him in person at PetSmart in a couple of days, but by then he was removed from their website. When he was not brought to PetSmart...as that rescue did EVERY Saturday, I found Mia from a private owner/re-home and she and Brody are PERFECT together!

So, the motto works...:p...I just felt that a "...got your email...sorry, he's gone" reply was appropriate so I wouldn't sit and wonder if they took him off the list FOR ME or because he was unavailable or because I could see him Saturday anyway...whatever....especially since one of the people that works at that 'rescue' knows us personally. :confused:

The upside...as I see it...is, if this little one was 'not YOUR puppy' then 'YOUR PUPPY' is still waiting for you to find him/her! :D
